You're Nothing - Iceage
Too loud, and not in a good way. All it does is make me wanna listen to their more superior first record. 5/10

Haven't listened to their first album yet, but this album sounded terrible. Don't know if it's any indication of what to expect on their first album but it sounded like a chaotic, uninspired mess.

Their debut sounds nothing like this. In comparison, New Brigade is much more restrained than the chaotic bull**** they aimed for with You're Nothing. Give their debut a go, it's fantastic.

Like I said I'm trying to make the most of it, but "Copies, Clones, & Replicants" by Powerman 5000 is not very good. The singer didn't even make a real effort hitting some hard, golden notes in this album, like he seemed to in songs such as Supernova Goes Pop or others.

Pure Love-Anthems.
I'd heard the title track "Bury my Bones" about half a year ago or so and I thought it was a pretty generic, soulless rock anthem. But still thought I'd give the album a listen. How bad could a Frank Carter side project be? Well, pretty bad is the answer. Fair play to him, he's shown he can sing and not just scream-actually the singing was surprisingly good, but that's all it is. Shocking album. Handsome Devils Club probably the only passable song. So much for the new QOTSA...I'm not going to call him a sellout though, if this is what he wants to do that's fine, I wish him all the best. I really wanted to like this album, but I just can't. |

Kvelertak - Meir (2013) This kills me because I love their 2010 debut so much, but this just isn't doing anything for me. I can appreciate them not playing it safe and just redoing their debut and actually attempting to evolve as musicians, but this just isn't what I was hoping for. I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad, but it lacks all the things that made their debut so memorable. |

While their 2010 self-titled debut wasn't the first album to do their blend of hard rock and extreme metal, it was something refreshing, especially in that it got a lot of publicity. Those albums can be hard to live up, but this kind of music should have me bouncing around my room like a chimpanzee on cocaine. It has me a little worried if Ghost's new album is going to be a similar experience.
Maybe with time I'll learn to appreciate it, but I think I'm just going to shelf this one for a little while and bring it out when the new releases dry up. |
