Kendrick Lamar - good kid, M.A.A.D. city (2012)

Yeesh... I lowered my expectations but evidently not enough because I really had to try to not hit the eject button on my car's CD player and toss the burned disc out the window. I have yet to hear a song I like and I find myself growing increasingly annoyed at the phone call conversation things at the end of the tracks that go on way too long.

Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't dig this album? I don't really see what all the fuss is about, the only memorable song on the album to me is 'Matilda' and the rest just goes right past me. But what really irks me the most about this album is the annoying faux-African vocals, despite their vocalist hailing from Leeds or somewhere in the UK. I've given the album about three plays but I just can't get into it at all.

Agreed with people saying Alt-J, really can't get into it. I'd like to just to see what the fuss is.

I enjoy about 99% of the CDs in my collection, since I usually try to hear at least
a couple of songs from new albums/bands before buying. However, I just hit two
clunkers in a row:

"Synthetica" by Metric--other than the first cut, "Artificial Nocturne", I didn't
find a lot of catchy hooks as I had hoped, based on their previous release, "Fantasies."

"Boys & Girls" by Alabama Shakes. I picked up the CD based on seeing them
on a late night show and seeing the Youtube video for "Hold On"--but most of
the rest of the CD left me a little disappointed. For some reason, the tunes weren't
too memorable: needed more guitar solos!

Pete, Goofle. Was Good Kid Mad City, really that bad that this thread needed dug up?
Hell, it was a longer than it needed to be and thus some of the tracks dragged on too long, but do we honestly blame Kendrick for that?

How about Dre trying desperately to claw back the spotlight he has not been accustomed to in recent years by overproducing?

Sure, it's not Section 8.0, but it shows a little diversity and as I've said before had he created Section 8.1 we'd have probably bashed him for not opening up as an artist and trying to move on.
And as for the interludes and other jingles, yeah they're annoying but most rap albums from the 90's had them. Ready to Die and Life After Death were chocked full of them, but they're heralded as classics despite the fact I can't sit through them.

Perhaps you feel the same away about this album, but I believe in Kendrick and I'm sure this album will grow over time, if you allow it to.

I couldn't care less what direction Kendrick went in as long as I liked the album, but it was below par, and at some points I was physically cringing.

Neurosis - Honor Found in Decay (2012)

I almost didn't want to post this because I listened to it and didn't enjoy it all that much. I figured bob. might come in here demanding blood, throwing all kinds of accusations and inquiries like why I bumped a thread to talk about albums we didn't find enjoyable.

Anyways I didn't like this album not because it didn't sound EXACTLY like their under-appreciated 2007 album Given to the Rising but because I just can't see where the band wants to go. This album is really unlike anything they've done, which doesn't automatically mark it down, but it does make me wonder if the band was fully ready to commit to their new sound and it seems like there's this weird compromise that really makes the album not go anywhere. I'm willing to give it another try, but my computer better dispense hookers with cocaine up their fannies or something, otherwise I won't be that impressed.

I've never understood the universal acclaim and following Neurosis have going.
I listened to the painfully mediocre 'A Sun That Never Sets' and when I revealed it as such, I was hounded by my fellow forum members.
Can someone explain to me what is so great about this band? Is there something I don't understand?
Granted I have only listened to one of their albums, but it didn't exactly entice me to pick up any others.
And, I don't have the patience to repeatedly listen to it hundreds of times in the hope that I may click.
Clichéd responses like 'its a grower' and 'no you're wrong, it's really good' will not be given any merit. Someone please explain to me what they specifically like about this group, droney vocalist and all.
