Haha, fair enough. I'm just saying I like a lot of other stuff labeled as "noise rock" or "noise pop" but you are right I need *something* else in there...

Listened to both of these today and neither really grabbed me. For two talked about albums this year, I felt they were pretty blasé. |

Haha two of the new albums I actually downloaded this year and liked a lot. Although I thought Tweak Bird's EP was better. Free Energy's album is a little bloated but full of hooks n riffs. How did 'Bang Pop' not grab you?

Actually that one did grab me, just by how annoying the lyrics/vocal melody where, haha. I think Fang Island are doing sort of a similar sound as Free Energy but pulling it off better.

Well yeah, you have to be willing to put up with a kinda "cutesy" voice to listen to Free Energy.
I have Fang Island but haven't listened to it yet. Maybe this is what it took to give it a shot...

me too, both of 'em. I'm not really too motivated to listen to the album again.

I just listened to the Fang Island debut. Gotta say, while they have some similarities they are not doing the same thing as Free Energy. Free Energy has a much cleaner sound and is more classic rock influenced. Fang Island has kind of a spacy, lo-fi thing going on. I still like Free Energy better...

My comparison is mostly based on their similar classic-rock-lead-guitar-dominant sound, that isn't that prominent in indie. First time I head Fang Island, I immediately thought of 70's British Invasion metal.

Lightning Bolt grows on you. Give them another chance if you're in the mood. I felt the same way the first few times I listened to them and now I love them.
