Very disappointing. I guess psychedelic rock isn't my thing, but this just sounds like a watered-down, immature imitation of Thom Yorke's work.

I hated that album at first....but after about 20 listens I really enjoyed it. Siberian Breaks is by far my favorite MGMT song now.

The single "Swing Tree" sounded so promising, but the album......is the complete opposite, there's maybe one other decent song on there, the rest have annoying beats that are impossible to sit through without skipping. Sigh. But what can yoi expect from a band that's half Vampire Weekend, half Ra Ra Riot.

Ok this album gets talked up a lot around here so I finally decided it was worth my time to check out. Am I missing something? Should I play it a few more times? Sounds like a guy decided to start rambling with an acoustic and some guys passed by with other instruments and decided to play along. I was expecting so much more...

Figured this might spark some discussion here. So tell me...wtf.

First time I listened to IAAOTS I immediately loved it. You're just weird.

Then again, I listened to it with no expectations really.. just a recommendation from a friend I think. I didn't know it was hyped to the high heavens, I at first thought it was an album only me and my friend knew about. A little gem of an album, but it's obviously one of the most influential Indie albums ever.

I would think you would be one of the guys that can relate to not getting an album. Seriously...it sounds like if I picked up my acoustic and just started winging it and then maybe a couple friends stopped by with their instruments, I could write this album. I'll give it a few more chances before I just pack it in.

I can relate to it, but I think it's a 5 star album myself. But lots of people think DSOTM is 5 star... so yeah.

If you can write an album like that, then I take my hat off to you sir.

Weird. I just checked out this album too since alot of people talk good about it. I loved it immediately and cursed myself for not listening to it sooner.

You're not alone duga, my first few listens to it didn't do much for me and the way I felt about the instrumentation mirrored your feelings exactly. However after another couple of listens I finally started to enjoy it.

I'm glad to hear that. I'll give it a few more spins and we'll see how it goes. I was hoping someone would say it was a grower, because it honestly has a bunch of elements I should really enjoy...they just didn't strike me on first listen.

OctaneHugo 06-28-2010 10:53 AM

See, I went in with no expectations at all and loved it.

Of course, you can't go in expecting amazing instrumentation.

GravitySlips 06-28-2010 11:01 AM

I found it to be a grower, although nowadays I've no desire to ever listen to NMH - think I've overplayed them in all honesty.
