What musicians/bands have you met?

I'm curious to find out who has met some of their favorite bands and musicians and maybe what their encounters were like. I'm including my own list below...

Ben Gibbard
John Vanderslice
The Dodos
Dr. Dog
Ra Ra Riot
Loney, Dear
Owen
Maserati

I personally met the Raveonettes. That's was pretty amazing as their one of my favorite bands. But that is the only band I have met in person.

Sneer 12-06-2009 11:19 AM

I met Howling Bells on a tube train a couple of weeks ago. I was rendered a blabbering idiot mostly due to the fact Juanita Stein is so incredibly hot.

Anteater 12-06-2009 11:41 AM

I met Scottish guitarist extraordinaire Tony McManus and shook his hand after a mindblowingly good show about two weeks before Thanksgiving. :pimp:

p7byrd 12-06-2009 01:47 PM

Excluding concerts and music venues, I met Anthony Keidis in Tokyo when he happened to stroll into a clothing store I was casually shopping at with my sister. Small guy.

Met Circulatory System. All super nice, but pretty drugged out.

Robert Hingley of The Toasters.
Todd Hembrook from Deal's Gone Bad gave me a shout out when I asked him to play a song before his set. Also the bassist from Voodoo Glow Skulls.

Astronomer 12-07-2009 03:21 PM

I met Finn Andrews and Sophia Burn of The Veils a week or so ago. Which made me very happy because The Veils are one of my favourite bands at the moment

Stone Birds 12-07-2009 04:21 PM

Snow Patrol
Army Navy
Thomas Aikenhead
Serena Ryder

I know i'm missing a few...

Staropramen 12-07-2009 05:28 PM

Tony Banks, Peter Hammill and I interviewed Colosseum for a Czech magazine when I lived there.

I'm not sure it was luck. With Mr.Banks it was a question of hanging around the Parker Meridian hotel in NYC back in October of 1986 until he showed up after the gigs at MSG. I had been a huge Genesis collector at the time and got some pretty rare stuff autographed. With Peter Hammill, I'd seen him numerous times back in the 80's/early 90's and he always hung around after the gigs to meet fans. My Czech friend got the interview with Colosseum but was afraid to do the actual interview because he thought his English wasn't up to par so he asked me to do it which was cool. That was a bit of luck, I guess.

When I was a kid, I met Miles Davis ... he kind of creeped me out until my brother told me who he was! haha

Zarko 12-13-2009 01:38 AM

Played pool with The Bad Seeds after their gig (Minus Cave and Ellis).

I met Alex Band of The Calling last year in Richmond. He was so sweet. I also got to talk to him on the phone last week (a promo for the prerelease of his new album..) and he was totally the nicest guy ever!

LOL when I was still in highschool, my dad used to take my sister and I to Warped Tour, and this one year, he called us all excited because he had met Good Charlotte and talked to them about politics for a long time and got autographs. LOL my sister and I were looking at his autographs later and he had actually met Anti-Flag!! That was SO hilarious!! I think he just got the names mixed up because he knew both band's music quite well....

RubiExpressTJ 12-13-2009 11:39 AM

Megadeth when i was about 15. Dave told me I have a very good name. Pretty cool experience though it wasn't cheap.

I have seen Oasis and Coldplay backstage but have never actually managed to have a conversation or even manage hello with anyone else.

The Monkey 12-14-2009 03:22 PM

Met Arctic Monkeys backstage once. Only exchanged a few words, but a friend of mine who was interviewing them for a magazine said they weren't exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Dude that's awesome....

I've never met him but one of my teachers is related to Thelonious Monk in some way (Niece I believe). I think that's pretty awesome.

My cousin Nick was taught bass by a guy who was taught by Mingus.

storymilo 12-14-2009 05:43 PM

^You know I think Andrew's bass teacher is somehow related to the Dead Kennedys... like their guitarist for a short period of time or summat.

I don't really go out of my way to meet musicians or any famous people for that matter. Only somewhat well know one I can think of is Brian Cook of These Arms Are Snakes. I moshed with the singer of Cancer Bats.

Bulldog 12-15-2009 02:07 AM

Me and my brother met Craig Nicholls of the Vines in Cambridge. As it turns out, he's a pretty tiny lad. Came across as pretty callow as well.

I met Nicholls as well a few years ago! I didn't bother mentioning him because I didn't think anyone would know of him. He was indeed tiny, but not as tiny as me, haha. Definitely had a naive feeling about him. I also think he was completely stoned.

Bad Brains, he already had poison poison bolded.

Rickenbacker 12-15-2009 04:45 PM

No hard feelings then! Gotta love Bad Brains.

NumberNineDream 12-16-2009 12:18 AM

James Blunt was once galavanting in front of me, I didn't really feel like taking the extra steps to talk to him... and that's the nearest I got to a known person. Unless you count spending a day with Dakota Fanning in a dream.

Dieselboy 12-19-2009 04:49 PM

Donno if this counts, but...believe it or not, I played WoW with Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers Band.

A good friend of mine through that game worked for the band, and got him playing as well. When the 1st expansion for the game came out a few years ago, we spent a good week or so leveling up our characters together. Was talking with them on vent the whole time and everything. Was pretty cool. :)
