Default Singing Tips

Does anyone have any tips that you can give to help me be able to sing a little better, such as exercises or some techniques that a singing lesson might teach, let me know thanks.

Don't force your voice. If you have access to a piano and an okay ear, you should be able to improve your voice in a matter of weeks. Find out your highs and your lows (before warming up), and do scales. Just scales! You can develop your own complications, and own style of practice that way.
Most of today's popular singers (pretty vague I know) started out in a choir, of some sort or another. When you sing use your diaphragm to inhale and exhale. As you inhale your diaphragm should expand. If it does not, you have a lot of work to do already. One way to practice good, healthy singing, is to lean up against something around your diaphragm's height, lean against it, and sing... If you are being pushed up on your inhales, you are good. That's an old method. Just don't pass out, okay? lol.

Don't try to emulate someone else's voice. Just don't. There is no maybe. Don't.
Down the road (if you haven't reached it yet), you will be able to use your throat, nasal cavity, and even your tongue to change your particular tone. Diaphragm singing comes first, then comes the throat yelling (which is very bad for your voice, but I love to do anyways).

Good luck!
