Well i dont necessarily do either, but im thinking if we only have 50 spots and we have some put forward by people with 3 posts then would that really help to achieve what were goin for here? It doesnt matter though, cause we arent gonna get 50 albums nominated.
I feel you're missing out on what people are posting here. The 20 or so albums that have been nominated so far shouldnt be random in any shape or form. They should be the favourite albums of this decade from each of those posters. I don't mean to come across badly here, because im trying to understand what you feel the advantages are of doing it the other way but im just struggling to see it really. Yes, we can all vote but only on albums other people have nominated? So, i cant even vote for my favourite album of this decade unless im lucky enough for the user nominated as the "expert" votes for it first? Heh, anyway im reading back through that and it may sound a bit arsey. If it does i apologise. I'll probably realise how i should have worded it to get my point across without sounding like a prick tomorrow. Last edited by Mojo; 11-23-2009 at 12:39 PM. |

As far as the post count goes, I'm not sure it really matters. If some dumbass with 3 posts comes in and posts Kid Rock or Nickelback or something like that, we're all going to know it sucks and disregard their post. Otherwise we can vote to see whether we think it deserves a spot.
Glad I count (I figured I would), I was thinking of senior members more along the lines of people like you, jackhammer, bulldog and others that have been here that long. Some of those listed have been notoriously absent from this thread |

I agree with both you of you. Mojopinuk, Ya MB should be just for fun... I would like to see a thread that isn't all fucking elitist for once. On the other hand, a top 50 list is kind of important to me for some reason... I was thinking we could post it somewhere else but the site, for people who don't like the NME list or something. This is why I wanted to maybe mix it up later in the game.
Anteater, I don't know who would decide who gets to be the ten of fifteen or whatever. Maybe we wouldn't have to do it by genre. I was thinking Bulldog, Zarko, Anteater (you), Comus, Urban Hatemonger (I think he's into punk), Janszoon maybe, RT (for soul?), and who is that emember who's all into good hip-hop? Maybe Loathsomepete might be able to contribute some good albums. I really have no idea, maybe we could nominate people and have a vote. This is still for fun and still a community list, you know. As far as right now I think we should just go with the flow, but if either of you (or anyone) wants to PM me we could discuss future stuff in the backgrounds. Just read your other post Mojo, and I was thinking that without having some special members work really hard to dig up some greats, the community would never get the chance to even listen to them, vote on them, etc. I don't know what the actual list is for though, so maybe you're right. I thought it was simply about saying "Here is what Music Banter thinks are the really great albums of the 2000's" But who is Music Banter? |

Well im glad you can see where im coming from, or at least that you're trying to because i was thinking my last post could easily make me sound like a prick which of course was never the intention.
The last couple of lines in your post there...thats pretty much the angle im getting at here. The way i see it the MB list should just be just that, it should be open to every member of this site to vote and nominate because doing it the other way means the vast majority of us WILL get to vote, sure, but not for what we want to vote for. |

Anyway, the only reason I suggested genre is because if we don't, its gonna be like 85% Indie-whatever and 15% whatever other people are interested in, and I've seen enough Pitchfork-esque lists to last a lifetime. Maybe I'm wrong, but I though MB is a more diverse place than that; if I wanted uniformity, I'd be part of the countless other forums out there where everybody is gagah over The Mars Volta, Muse, Arcade Fire, Of Montreal, Arctic Monkeys, U2, Sigur Ros, etc. and say "LOOK AT ME'Z I LIKE GOOD MOOZICKZ11". So regardless of how a Top 50 of the Decade list comes about, I'm hoping to be surprised a bit. The question is; how can we get more regulars to participate without tossing in a post count minimum? Schizotypic: I like that idea. Scratch my concerns.

Being new here, I know my opinion probably is not nearly as important to someone who has devoted mass amounts of time to making this place active, but I would still like to offer some my input on this discussion.
Would a single poll with 50 options be an actual legit way to show what the forums 50 favorite albums are? For example, lets say that there is an album that many love, but everyone who likes this album, or most at least, loves a similar album that is on the poll, a little bit more. This first album, gets almost no votes, while albums liked be less people who have different tastes get far more votes. Not sure how you were gonna do the poll exactly, but allowing posters to multi vote, pic more than one option, and allowing them to select every album in the poll that they enjoy listening to and think is worthy for a top 50. This way any album will get the vote that it deserves without stealing votes from other albums. I think it would be the best way for a forums overall taste to be truly represented. Just a thought.

Schizotypics idea sounds good to me but why a minimum of three posts? If they're contributing to the forum enough to represent it in a top 50 list shouldn't their post count be at least in the double digits?
