Saw earlier that it was discussed that a post count minimum might be in play to allow someone to put forth their favorite? Is that the case?

If not

Personally I'd go for Lifted but thats just me. It's not that I don't like I'm Wide Awake, I just don't feel it offers as much as some of the other albums. Good pick anyhow.

Considering the choice, no objections from me. Plus, it's unlikely we'll get 50 unique choices from regular members, most of which have had ample time to see this thread and decide, so fuck 'em.

Yeah theres 30 spots left, i agree. It would be nice though if some of the more senior members took part as well or theres not much point.

I'll join in, but I'm not a senior member

21. Madvillain - Madvillainy

Anteater, I've never even heard of yours. I'll have to fix that later.

I honestly think this thread needs a a reboot; people are just posting random albums (including me) without explaining WHY its one of the 50 top albums of the decade. Plus, in the case of Radiohead, we're getting more than one album per artist, which seems kind of redundant and doesn't really make our list that representative of MB.

Would be nice to have more regular members contribute also, but not sure if there's anything that can be done about it.

"Another idea is we recruit ten very diverse members. Like whoever would be the best advocate for progressive rock albums in the 2000's would be chosen, and then pick someone for hip-hop, someone for metal, etc. Ten members with ten different preferences could probably easily make a list of 200 and it wouldn't look anything like the NME list.

I wouldn't prefer those ten members to have the final say, though. Maybe we could open a poll thread where each of the people who made the base of the list could give their input in a paragraph as far as what they prefer and why, and then the community would chose from there. It sounds complicated but I think having representatives for MB would much better reflect the diversity of the site then someone going through 100 different top 50 lists to find similarities... and even then who has the final say? "
Yeah my old idea is starting to look a little better now that the community of MB has half-assed the 50 list. Personally, though, I think the current idea is the best- even if Radiohead does keep getting posted. It perfectly represents MusicBanter, a bunch of average albums and some people posting good ones, or at least that's my interpretation.

On another note, does anybody know if it is possible to make a poll with 100 options? We can take the communities list and the elitist list and put them both up on a poll and give a date and the highest 50 albums at the end of it will make the list. It would open options up to the community, like albums they hadn't thought of. All the rad obscure hip-hop, new progressive rock, good metal bands, etc... THEN we could vote and let the community decide.

I still think that people are thinking about this way too much. I agree there has to be certain rules in place, whatever these rules are but ultimately this CAN just be a bit of a fun, you know?

Fine, if 3 or so Radiohead albums get put forward then either all 3 of them stay because we just recognise that we gave everyone the opportunity to nominate their favourite record and accept that or its opened up to the rest of the community to vote on which of the 3 is their favourite and therefore MB's favourite, that one stays and the other 2 spots are then opened up again.

I still think everyone should have a say. When all 50 (and IF all 50) ever get nominated then maybe we can all decide if theres a cut off. Maybe we might want to re-think albums nominated by those with very few posts, for example.

I think the way were doing it is fine though, just as i say once all 50 are in there may be a few things we want to change about it before going any further. As it stands its not gonna matter anyway because were not gonna enough nominations and the more senior members of this site dont seem interested in participating which really hurts this idea.

Oh and music_phantom, i dont know what you think i mean by senior member but you count! I, of course, was thinking of some other, specific members who it would be nice to see contribute but you more than deserve a vote!

Actually, your old idea is starting to look REALLY good right now. After all, there are some people here that have demonstrated a fair amount of knowledge an experience in various genres, including stuff from these last ten years, like Zarko for jazz, Jackhammer for reggae/metal, Urban for anything, Terrible Lizard for blues/weird shit, etc.

Mojo: The current thread could be completed before anything's decided, but I really do think that 10-15 or so specifically diverse people each picking one or two albums for a big list will probably turn out more interesting than 50 random peeps posting up whatever they happen to feel like based on...how they feel.

PS: I don't think post count should be a criteria for whether or not the person has a vote either. :P
