So would Kings of Leon be your favourite 2000s act?

Harry McClintock - Big Rock Candy Mountain - O Brother, Where Art Thou ? Soundtrack

I started listening to Kings of Leon back in 2004 while I was stationed in England. Aha Shake Heartbreak came out over there 6 months before it was out in the States. I would say they are my favorite 00's artist. My problem is their weakest album, Only By The Night, has become their biggest hit over here. At least they're starting to get recognition in their home country.

Americans don't have the best taste. I've heard the most complimentary things about Youth & Young Manhood though.

1723 of 6828 songs are from the 00's. (25%)

Not counting "best of" albums released in the 00's, but with music from before then.

60s-33, 0.5%
70s-125, 2%
80s-192, 3.1%
90s-1331, 21.6%
00s-4471, 72.7%

Kind of shocking actually.

4473 songs from 8414 songs are from the 2000's, so 53%

Not the 2000's are my favourite decade probably, but I hardly think this is a fair comparison. Primarily due to the changing of format when it comes to music. LPs could hold ****, and as such albums were tailored around that. What was it, 40 minutes for an LP? and those were the late 80's/90's. When bands could start pumping in 80 minutes worth of albums with the advent of CDs, this mainly meant that they had more songs per album. This is somewhat offset by the fact that in ye olde days, bands released albums more regularly (ie 40 minute albums every year rather than an 80 minute album every three).

EDIT - Actually decided to check out album total. From - to 99 (Which includes reinterpretations of classical compositions) I have 419 albums. From 2000 onwards I have 420 albums. So the song total was actually accurate

Wow. I was actually pretty surprised to see that over half of my collection is from this decade. I'm actually kinda' disappointed by that fact.

Roughly 34.2% of my 9728 songs are from this decade. Not too long ago it was more than half, so I'm not too disappointed. And a lot of it includes reissues and the like, so those shouldn't really count towards this decade.

When I rip a reissue or remaster to my computer, I always change the date to the original date. Who cares when it was re-released? I'm more interested in the original album's release year. And regarding greatest hits comps, the "good" ones will have individual years for each track, and not a year for the whole comp.

The 00s are the decade we are living in, everything is easier to have if it is from this specific decade. And all artists, if known for a month or a year, are going to be heard.
These are huge factors as well. If I were to give you figures based on my iTunes library, it wouldn't account for all the CDs I have on the shelf that I haven't listened to in over 5 years and therefore haven't made it to my computer. So the digital library is usually a more accurate representation of the music we've listened to in this decade and perhaps part of the late 90s for some. I eventually would like to have all of my CD collection ripped, but honestly that probably will never happen.

I'm betting at least 50% of my digital collection is from the 00s. Even if you consider physical + digital together, it's probably still close to 50%. It's just easier to discover new bands in this decade, so we acquire more, regardless of format.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
