Although I'm not a fan of festivals, I can't wait to go to this shit when I move back to Texas.

All fine and dandy but not for hundreds of dollars. My house would usually end up like that every weekend anyway. I would rather just wait and catch my favorite artists doing individual shows. I ended up watching the live broadcast on the big stadium-esque screen... OF THE SHOW I WAS CURRENTLY ATTENDING. This whole notion just seems wrong to me.

I kinda agree with Bane.
Especially regarding music festivals in Austin. For instance: Austin City Limits. Many great/notable acts play but the atmosphere is horrible. It's always either way too hot or it's raining and the ground turns to mud. Then the sun comes out and the already 100 degree air becomes super humid creating a sauna-like atmosphere. Also the ground is either mud or dust. They decided to make it better this year - they moved the date of the fest back so the weather would cool down a bit and they planted a lot of new grass (paid for by tax $$ btw - it's held in a city park) to overcome the ground issues. They even used envorinmentally-friendly fertilizer with a lot of local manure compost added.
But it rained for a long time and everybody ended up soaked, trudging around in processed shit and destroying all the new grass.

Anyway, this is still no excuse to miss Fun Fun Fun fest - it's held late in the year when the weather is perfect and it's in a smaller park with a lot less people. Oh - and the music is 10x better too.

Not sure why you posted that? But I just looked it up and it was seven months ago (06-09-2009, 01:28 PM ).

Engine, I always thought ACL was taped indoors. I guess I didn't really pay attn and just assumed. But I never see any daylight in the shows, so is the heat really a big problem? And the sun comes out? How long do these shows go on for? I really don't know anything about ACL except for watching it on tv when there's someone notable on. I think I'm gonna check out a show or two there soon. I am in Austin now, apartment hunting. Stoked to be back in Tx.

No, you're thinking of the PBS show that is recorded inside a studio on the UT campus - I guess it is more well-known (shown on TV and such). The background in the studio is made to look like a view of Austin at night.

I'm talking about the annual festival in Zilker Park that looks more like this..

It goes for 3 days (no camping) and has a lot of stages where bands play all day.

Ohhhhh, that makes sense.
So I was talking to someone today about FFF Fest, and I never realized that it takes place in multiple places. The way she was describing it sounded very cool. She was saying that these big names sign up under pseudonyms, and you just have to hear from word of mouth where certain people are playing.
