I love listening to albums such as the Chillout Sessions by Ministry of Sound before I sleep. But my problem often is that I start getting my imagination going and I change to different types of songs with end up making me alert and completely unable to sleep. Infact, I have just done that, which is why I came online.

I find if I tweak the volume just right, post-metal is some of the best music to sleep to. This album in particular, Sea of the Dying Dhow by the U.K. post-metal band *shels has been my greatest success so far. |

Imo, it's hard to beat Dark Side of the Moon. If you put it on just as you're getting ready for bed and lay down after the intro to Time, it will put you right out. My Dad did this for years and years, which is why I've been listening to it this way since before I was born.
In addition to that, a lot of ambient or post-rock albums work well. |

I used to listen to that and even Richard D. James Album when going to sleep. Not sure how I pulled that off. But I was younger then.
I'll list some later when I have time...but I agree with Boards of Canada and chill instrumental/post-rock for the most part. And obviously tons of electronic stuff.
