First Show You Went To?

I haven't really been to any shows aside from local bands no one knows about. In about a week I'll be attending my first real show with The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and Deal's Gone Bad playing.

I'm also probably going to see Dillinger Escape Plan and Fake Problems play, although I'm not to big of a fan of Dillinger Escape plan but my friend is who will be there with me.

Edit: COme to think of it, I forgot I did see Diana Krall a few months back.

Janszoon 11-01-2009 06:46 PM

My first show was Roy Orbison with the Crickets (Buddy Holly's former band) opening, my dad took me. I can't say it had much of an impact on me as a nine year old or however old I was but looking back I'm pretty happy I got to see an early rock legend like Orbison in concert before he died.

LoathsomePete 11-01-2009 07:26 PM

The Offspring back in 1998 when they were supporting Americana. They were really one of my first bands and my mum knew how much I liked them so she took me to see them. It was a pretty good show, but I really didn't know any of their previous material so I was a little confused when they weren't just playing songs from Americana.

I think that the first real concert I ever went to was Blue Oyster Cult, when I was in 5th grade. It didn't really have too much of an impact on me though. I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was that amazing.

+81 11-01-2009 08:29 PM

My first was the Warped Tour I think. I was in awe that I got to see bands like Nofx and Anti-Flag.

music_phantom13 11-01-2009 08:33 PM

Oh ****, I went to Warped Tour my first year in middle school forgot about that. Just after the BOC concert. I think I enjoyed it a lot more.

Yes and you can see from your quote that I edited the date in my post. I thought it was the "Damaged Justice" tour w/ The Cult opening for only several dates. I can't remember now if it was summer 88 or summer 89 - or if that's even the right tour. But I know it was summer b/w 9th and 10th grade. Hm..seems like the math should be easier

Man I think my first actual show was a Buck-0-Nine show in 96'... I'd been going to local shows for a while prior to that, but that was the first show I actually bought a ticket for or wasn't playing a show with while in a local opening band.

SATCHMO 11-02-2009 05:00 AM

Yngwie Malmsteen opening for Triumph (god that hurt)

apptarheel 11-02-2009 05:05 AM

Soundgarden in '94 - Superunknown tour (Rev. Horton Heat opened)

FETCHER. 11-02-2009 06:22 AM

Something called Fantazia, when I was 16. It was awesome, at the time. It's a Nedfest now.

Mojo 11-02-2009 06:49 AM

Ocean Colour Scene at Newcastle City Hall in 2001 when i was 17.

Zer0 11-02-2009 06:52 AM

Kinda true. Liam didn't turn up and Noel sang all the songs. I remember a lot of people being pissed off but it was still a good gig.

lucifer_sam 11-02-2009 09:26 AM

Grateful Dead, '93 tour with the parents. needless to say i don't remember much but i can always claim i saw Jerry Garcia play with them live.

Norg 11-02-2009 11:05 AM

My first show was Tool the were touring with Tomahawk and they got booed LOL people just didnt get "it" at the time

chrissygerraty 11-02-2009 03:54 PM

The first show I attended was actually a No Doubt show in Berkeley with LIT and the Black Eyed Peas. I was in middle school and I remember it being so much fun and colorful. Of course, LIT is pretty much out of sight out of mind now but it's incredible to think how far the Black Eyed Peas have come (not a fan, just saying that they've lasted longer than I expected). I don't really have a desire to see No Doubt live again (Gwen Stefani live is a bit overrated to me) but I'm glad that I got to see them at their prime.

Smashing Pumpkins, July 1996 in Washignton DC
the night before Chamberlin got arrested for that heroin incident

jackhammer 11-03-2009 04:27 PM

Slayer. 1987. A nice introduction @15 to the world of live music! The days when you NEVER got I.D'd at gigs. I think I was completely smashed on 2 pints of beer. Those were the days!

Alfred 11-03-2009 05:02 PM

Bob Dylan last November. Seeing him again in 3 days.

Tomahawk of course they where supporting Tool they had just came out and people didnt get "it" yet

TotalHenshin 11-07-2009 11:06 PM

First concert - Between the Trees (local, emo-Christian Pop/Rock band. This was very early on my road of musical growth)

First "secular" concert - The New Pornographers (which sucked because no Neko Case)

My favourite has to be when I drove to Fort Worth and saw Bob Dylan live, though. Long drive, but it was a sort of personal trip to Mecca. :)

The dangerous one, the loser that nobody likes, the black guy, the closet ***.

^thats true btw. good judgement otherwise.

Hype8 11-08-2009 02:49 PM

aww I remember Blue. I thought they were a pretty different type of boyband, a lot more funky and less corny than the others.

my first show was Phish. I was hooked [pun intended] and all I wanted to do was discover more music and go to more shows.
