In reply to Sound Devastation about mp3s and such, I'm not going to pay 500 plus dollars for some record I want because it will make me feel real in complete knowing i'm such an asshole that I go around collecting rare records and putting them in a box and never listening to them.
Also, the best music cannot be made in recent years, sure, good music has been made but so has music over the past few 100 years that has been inovative and really amazing. Take an example, Red Krayolas first album is better than their most recent album over a 40 year time period. |

um... my point had nothing to do with record collecting at all.
it was about owning, listening to and appreciating the music. not listening to stuff you buy (or spending that much money on it) is a completely different matter..

Why do you have to own it? MP3 is a way of owning an album, you can get the cover art, the album informantion via the internet and copy the music onto a disc and listen to it. It's the same but you're sticking it to the man just a little bit more, i'm not going to appreciate the music any less, and will probably listen to it more where as without MP3 I would have never got to hear these bands who press 100 records in their lifespan.

it my personal opinion. an album is more than a list of songs for me.. its 5 inches wide and you can see your reflection in it. its wrapped in paper and plastic with high res artwork, and it's has had time and effort put into making it. i dont understand how anyone can settle for having nothing but mp3s.. i just couldnt.
im not disregarding mp3's as a way of listening to new music.. theyre fantastic in that respect, or even as a different way of listening to music. im disregarding them only as a replacement to physical medium (which they will become), as i just dont think they compare.

They don't compare but there's still satisfaction. I have a greater appreciation for an album once I buy it and have it in physical form than when I listen to it on my computer. I'm a 15 year old kid I don't have money to just plain toss around. All the money I have I spend on records so I don't feel guilty at all for having craploads of mp3s on my computer.
