50 conservative songs
This is quite old, so there's a bit chance that you've heard this before, but I thought it was hilarious.
Rockin' the Right by John J. Miller on National Review Online That guy is a ****ing nutter. |

I lol'd
But I have to agree with The Monkey on this one, take one anti-communistic song and all of a sudden it's conservative, or in the case of Rush, a song about the environmental effect on logging. I get the distinct feeling he pretty much bullshitted his way through that list. I found it a little funny that he didn't mention any of the actual conservative punk bands like The Right Brothers. I think one of the most perplexing choices is Iron Maiden's cover of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". I'm still trying to figure that one out :S |

He even said at the beginning "In several cases, the musicians are outspoken liberals."
They obviously wouldn't have made a conservative song, would they? He just took one lyric from each song and somehow turned it into a conservative thing. |

Very entertaining list. Unimaginative political lyrics can get tiresome, but I've no problem with political statements in music when there is some wit or ingenuity involved. Taxman is a good pick, it's one of my favorite overtly political songs. You could actually put a lot of Rush's oeuvre on here, Neil Peart is certainly a very political (and libertarian) lyricist.

It's hard to believe that Miller didn't mention the last 3 Megadeth albums. And who can forget that there have been 2 (!) Megadeth albums with a decimated U.N. building on the cover?

“One,” by Creed. Creed - My Own Prison - One ; Against racial preferences: “Society blind by color / Why hold down one to raise another / Discrimination now on both sides / Seeds of hate blossom further.”
.....I guess these guys are the same kooks who think affirmative action oppresses the white race and who think the slightest advantage for black people is equivalent to the 300 years of oppression they had to endure. I'm glad Creed were always terrible anyways. |
