Capt. Beefheart - Yes, because they managed to experiment and truly push pop boundaries while still making enjoyable music.
Nick Cave - No. I'm a fan of his, but he's not so exceptional as to be in a Hall of Fame. Great lyrics and a cool voice, though. Nirvana - Yes, because they made great music and introduced a lot of people, of a certain generation, to alternative music. Blur - No. They followed a pretty standard formula and made uninspired and boring music. Neil Young - Yes, as he really introduced crunchy guitars to the pop canon and influenced countless artists. My Bloody Valentine - Yes. They weren't the first to make noise pop, as they were following on from Jesus & Mary Chain, but they still pushed the boundaries by submerging their hooks in layers and layers of feedback and effects. While that sounds pretty bad on paper, in execution it made incredibly compelling music and spawned countless imitators....to the betterment of pop music. John Zorn - Abstain, I know nothing about him.

Their first four or five albums all pretty much bleed together for me (with a few exceptions: "Pop Scene," "Yuko & Hiro," and "Song 2" all stand out to me as interesting and excellent songs). Their final couple of albums began to depart from that sound but also had worse songs, IMO.

To be honest, I can't be arsed with arguing in favour of Blur. I've gotten used to people ignoring them and calling them rubbish over the years, there's no point trying to defend them.
Let's agree to disagree on this one.
