Dorothee Oberlinger, Charlotte Barbour-Condini, Michala Petri, Quartet New Generation,
as well as most members of the Royal Wind Music are extremely talented female recorder players.

I know there are a lot of talented and famous female pianists, but I like Valentina Lisitsa a lot, she plays Chopin perfectly!
Miri Lee, who does lots of pop-song piano covers on Youtube, is gifted in music, too.

I agree with you there, to a point. It seems that music is a predominantly male driven industry, and we could go into a bunch of pop psychology and psychoanalysis on that subject unto it self. But it would seem to me, that women don't put their music out there as much as men do, and I dunno why that is. There are tons of talented women out there! Are they just shy?

Now I pose this question,

As a male do you respond to female vocals more so then male?

I pick up on men's voices more, because the lower tones are soothing to me.
But that's not to say I don't love female vocalists because they are like crack to my soul, I can identify with them. But on first listen if you were to give me a record done by a man and a woman I would mostly take the one with male vocals first off first spin.

Depends what type of music I'm listening to.

If I'm listening to pop, electronic, dance, soul or folk I prefer a female singer.

If I'm listening to rock, punk, metal or prog I prefer a male singer.

In my case YES, im a sucka for a chick with a beautiful voice. <3
But i don't like when it's too refined i like to hear emotion in the voice not perfection.

Also i don't quite agree there is a lack of female musicians in the industry, i mean it depends on the genre if you like acoustic popsy music like Taylor swift that genre is saturated with female musicians.

Same goes for just regular pop music or R & B there is no lack of female musicians there either.

Not even in the alternative genre is there a lack of female musicians i keep trying to think in which genre there is a lack of female musicians and i can only think of Punk and Metal.

Also i thought of Sleater Kinney for some reason

Also, I just listened to Grouper's Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill based on a recommendation in the Albums you're digging thread and enjoyed it very much:

I guess this post is my way of celebrating International Women's Day.

I don't limit it to genres like Urban, I just respond to a good voice in the same way whether it's male or female. I tend to prefer male voices because it's easier for me to sing along I guess.
