Default What makes a classic album

I had an argument with my brother the other day which revolved around his contention that Astral Weeks couldn't be a classic album because it hadn't sold many copies.
So does anyone have an opinion about whether an album that hasn't sold a lot can be a classic. Also is there anyone who's got an opinion about Astral Weeks itself. For e.g has anyone heard it who thinks it's not a classic?

album sales have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not an album is considered a classic. ask your retard of a brother whether or not he thinks any of britney spears' albums are classics. the only thing that matters is the music itself.

If a record can stand the test of time and continue to influence, then it's a classic.

I disagree.

Metal Machine Music is classic, but it totally sucks.
