Who has the oldest albums?
What are the five oldest albums you have and what year were they released?
No more then one album per year. Here's mine: Sun Ra - Sun Song (1956)
Sun Ra - Joy Of Sound (1957) Sun Ra- Jazz In Silhouette (1958) Ornette Coleman - The Shape Of Jazz To Come (1959) Ornette Coleman - The Is Our Music (1960) |

I have a couple of CD's that are over 20 years old but that doesn't count
It all depends though. I have classical music that obviously predates all modern music but Beethoven was crap at ripping CD's so that doesn't count either. 1958 with a couple of Miles Davis releases I guess.

i ended up grabbing the bulk of my old man's record collection a few years ago as he doesn't have a turntable or any real inclination to re-listen to it again (he replaced what he liked with cds). i know there's an original pressing of miles davis' 'kind of blue' in there and a bunch of other old school jazz from the 50s but i've never put them in order and i'm feeling way too lazy to do it now.

Not counting any jazz or classical recordings, i think it'd be Fats Domino - This is Fats Domino (1956) though not everything's been ripped, but I can't imagine I have anything older than 1956.
I own more original movies that are older than re-produced albums :s

The Complete Savory And Dial Sessions (1945-1951) First Miles (1945) Billie's Bounce (1945) Yardbird In Lotus Land (1946) The Love Songs Of Mr.B (1946) Flying Home (1947) Cool Bird (1947) The Band That Never Was (1948) Bird On 52nd Street (1948) Bird At The Royal Roost (1948) Cool Boppin' (1948) So if anybody has any of those, I'd die for an up! Why not counting Jazz? I think the cutoff point should be over 110 years ago. Also who is Fats Domino? |

I can't know who everyone is. =/ Before I came to this site I didn't even know who Kurt Cobain was and all I listened to was Blink 182 and a little bit of Tool and TMV, give me a break. Just to get under your skin, though, I just found out who Buddy Holly was today too.
I guess, I don't see too many people on MB reviewing old Jazz albums, or even namedropping any- even in the Jazz and Blues section. |
