My parents never listend to music in the house. When they did listen to music in the car (whether they were together or seperate in the car) it was always one generic soft rock station.
My mom is really into soft rock/love song crap I would never listen to: Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Elton John. She really digs Billy Joel's upbeat, top 40 music (whereas I prefer his Greatest Hits vol 3 singer/songwriter songs that have more complicated lyrics). Mom loves pretty much anything that's upbeat, catchy, and has easy lyrics to it. She also likes Neil Sedaka, Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons, Tom Jones.... you get the idea. I used to hate the soft rock genre but after awhile found I do like some of the 80s/90s music they play there. I think it's a good genre to have playing when little kids are in the car. As for recent music I've goten Mom to appreciate... she's gone to alot of concerts with me. She likes Alanis Morissette's vocals but doesen't care for her lyrics (Mom thinks all Alanis sings about are drugs, sex, relationships). Mom really liked Eisley and Lovedrug when we saw them in concert a few years ago. She also likes The Calling. Her favorite concert I got her to go to was Norah Jones. Having said all this, since Mom isen't a regular music listener, whenever one of her "favorites" comes on the radio, she never would recognize it in a million years. The only time she knows who's playing is if I put on one of the "greatest hits" compelations I bought her ...which she never uses. When dad was alive, the only artist I ever heard him mention he liked was Phil Collins. If I would've ever bought him a CD he probably would've nver listened to it either. Like I said, both parens are radio listeners. |
