My mother has a rather odd taste in music, very folk/ celtic/ hippie, er....I guess it would be a bad example but no bands are springing to mind, Blackmoores night...But then even more celtic/ folky.

My father, has always had quite a good taste in music and I can't really pinhole anything in particular he listens to.

Although I'm not Hispanic, I was practically raised by Vincente Hernandez and Linda Ronstadt during her Mexican music phase. The 8 track on the huge cabinet console was eventually worn out, when De Que Manera Te Olvido was played one too many times.

Mostly West African tunes for my parents and gospel. A lot of King Sunny Ade but when I was younger they listened to Prince, Michael Jackson, Sade, Bob Marley, etc.

And by listened to I mean played the songs at parties.

When I was younger my mom would play jazz every weekend and I hated it. Back then (8-12 years old?) I didn't really liek any music. She listens to stuff like Diana Krall, (I had to see her live), John Legend, Frank Sanatra, etc.
I don't mind some of the jazz she'll play but everything else is just....yuck. I'm sure once I get older I'll earn to like jazz.
My dad, he's from texas and just plays Country, no surprise there.

My mom's taste is alright. She listened to Adam and the Ants earlier stuff before he became more mainstream. The Psychedelic Furs, Michael Jackson's earlier stuff and Prince.

My dad's taste is interesting. He liked Electric Light Orchestra, The Carpenters, Devo, The Cars and The Police. A lot of music I listen to today are based around some of the band mentions.

Overall my parents didn't have to bad of taste.

My father loved the Beatles and even Paul McCartney's solo career. Some Johnny Cash and Pink Floyd was also appreciated. My mother's favourite band way back I guess was Abba. We have a pile of old Abba-records stacked somewhere. They also both like stuff like Dire Straits and Eagles. My mother was really into Elton John at some point and .. ugh, Celine Dion.

On the whole, though, they don't listen to a lot of music. A lot of the stuff they do listen to are norwegian artists which there's little point in mentioning perhaps except Jan Garbarek. It seems the older they got, the more their tastes shifted in favour of norwegian singer types with guitars and raspy voices.

I'm sorry.

Well I guess it could be worse. She could be listening to Now That's What I Call Panpipes/Bagpipes.

My dad was a musician and his collection consisted mainly of country, pop and classic rock although that is probably only scratching the surface. I never really got a chance to find out.

My mum is mainly into adult contemporary singer/songwriter stuff, country and easy listening... the Beatles' pop records, Elton John, Neil Diamond, ABBA, Eric Clapton solo stuff, the Eagles etc. She's not exactly open-minded when it comes to music and has very little time for it but she's surprised me in the past by namedropping Steely Dan and George Benson, and liking the Jack (AC/DC). She also liked Karma Police (apart from the volume of the bass lol).

One amusing thing is that back when I was living at home and listening to a lot of grotesque funeral doom she didn't say anything about it. But as soon as I put some Yes on, she told me it sounded like funeral music.

My father has good taste in music. Old school Motown, old rock, funk, jazz etc... and he made sure his daughter did to! lol He just exposed me to that good music and I took that and from there I did my own thing. When I was younger he would always play alot of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. He played other things to but thats what I remember vividly. Other things he would play were James Brown, Marvin ***e, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Rolling Stones, Rare Earth, Ottis Redding etc alot of great artists. Pretty much Motown and soulful artists.

My mother is into gospel and pretty much anything that has a nice beat. Shes not all that educated when it comes to music lol
