My mom and dad got me into blues, and then soul, so for that I'll be eternally grateful. However, my mom likes these 80's/90's one hit wonder pop songs from people I've never ever heard of, as well as the other day had me download Barry Manilow and Neil Sedaka for her. :\ My dad is more on the rock side now days, mostly mainstream stuff. For a while he was spinning Ray Charles every day in this truck, that was nice.

My parents have dire taste in music, I'm not embarrassed by it, I'm indifferent towards it.

My dad isn't much into music, but the stuff he does like is pop-country and silly stuff like that. My mom has decent taste in music. She likes a lot of the terrible radio pop singles but she also gotten into some of the Boston, RHCP, Vivaldi I've had playing at various times.

What in the hell is with the ska hate? I guess people's idea of Ska these days is Sublime and No Doubt.

"Real" Ska and the 2 Tone stuff is in a whole different ballpark from that stuff.

My mom listens to a lot classical music, probably because she grew-up playing piano. She says she likes the blues, but I'm not so into the blues yet so I don't know who she listens to. She's likes soul music, apparently. She was dancing to soul compilation I had and she knew who Redding was. Also she's into pop songs, I know this from her Backstreet Boys phase. I know she hates anything that sounds like The Velvet Underground (drone, distortion, realism in lyrics). I don't know her tastes that well and frankly I'm afraid to ask. Last time I asked she went on a rant about Barbra Streisand!
