Death metal, black metal, hardcore, industrial...the elements are all there, even if they're sometimes buried within the psychedelic chaos of some of the tracks.

And yeah, Renaldo and the Loaf are utter win. They need more attention here on MB!

On another point of interest, Dir En Grey are in possession of one of the most frighteningly talented frontmen in contemporary music today, Kyo, who could be best described as a Japanese Mike Patton in terms of vocal range coupled with the emotional sensibilities of a less whiny Thom Yorke.

For months, the "Lizard" influenced cover always caught my eye in the cd rack, but I never bought. I finally gave in, was immediately impressed with the vocalist, and thought "that lady can sing!" Turns out Kyo is a dude, but what a falsetto, what a growl, what a scream! Certainly destined to supplant Boris as Japan's best musical export.
