The way I look at it it's easy come easy go.
When my last computer died I lost about 50 albums. Within 2 weeks i'd found them all again. That's one reason I refuse to pay for downloaded material. It would have cost me a fortune to get it, and another small fortune to replace it again.

Feeling much better now... I just got back a little bit ago. I grabbed a few really good friends, 10 cds I love, and a boombox and went camping on a whim. I think it was a great plan. I think I've been more stressed from quitting smoking, adding on an extra job to my 40 hrs a week, and having a lot of other stuff I have to do recently. I'm not so busy this week either so that gets better. I also realized I not to not get so caught up in it and just say **** it if I miss something good. I'm going to miss a lot of great albums; I'll enjoy the ones I have.
And to asshat: I hope booboo does blow up your car. Because that is possibly the stupidest suggestion I've ever heard. Is your logic that because you downloaded the music, you can't actually enjoy it? As much as I would love to buy everything I enjoy, some of my favorite albums are downloads. Some of them I would never be able to find as a purchase and hunted long and hard to find a download. Now why the **** would I want to go and delete all of that? That's just dumb. I need to just stop downloading too much and give things time to sink in. And not care if I don't hear everything; it could be worse. What if their wasn't enough good music to listen to? Oh, and I make sure I know at least the vast majority of my music. There might be some stuff sitting in there that I couldn't recall for the life of me, but I know just about all of it. Those are the albums I purge away. It's just more not having time to listen to everything I like... a silly problem when you put it in perspective :p |

So when have you seen this before? Like, are you kidding me, who actually gets music and "never gives it a listen" like what does that even mean? Who would go through the process of getting tons of music and never listen to it... and you've seen this before? I spin at least an album a day by the way, and for me. And who is "us" "Do us a favor"? You want me to do the forum a favor and enjoy an album? I'll do the forum a favor if I decide to write a review, but enjoying an album is for me. Me and only me, and I'll go at whatever pace I want. So, not trying to be mean, but please, think before you post. It's pretty likely that your posts are missing out on some arrogance... oh, no, they got that. Last edited by Schizotypic; 07-20-2009 at 12:45 PM. |

and ok, i understand that that's ALOT of music, and it'll take a long time to get through it, and i'm not saying you have to listen to it all at once. but still, i think that it wouldn't hurt to give some of them a chance when you can, because otherwise they're wasting space on your computer. if that's what you're doing now, then fine, i'm sorry for my presumption, i was wrong to think that. as for what holds the highest priority of listening to, that's your call. i don't know what you have, and i don't know which albums are more important to you, but hell, if you wan't any type of advice, i'd suggest starting with doing it in some kind of generic order, i.e. alphabetical order, if that helps. and yes, i know plenty of people who have accumulated thousands of songs without listening to them yet, it's not uncommon, especially with the availibility of music through the internet. we're all collectors of music here, so it's common for people to get backed up with all of the music in today's world, even to an extreme.

I've listened to most of the albums in my library, for those I haven't, well, they'll be there for when I do want to listen to them, that's kinda the whole point of digital libraries in the first place.

But yeah, it isn't my problem with not listening to music, it's my problem with acquiring too much of it. It's a convenience thing, I have a system. I have a to-get-into list, and a to-get soon list, and I always try and get a good amount of albums or a discography. It makes me feel like I have that artist, and when someone recommends another album, I can check it out immediately. I actually try to pace myself, but musicbanter always ends-up convincing me, and then yet another artists get on my to-get list and drops their discography off in my music manager. I think with an exception of some artists I got at the same time as others I've listened to an album of every discography I have, so I know what's in my library for the most part. That's why I posted here, because it's overwhelming, I want so badly to listen to every album in my library, but I just can't. It's infuriating and overwhelming, and there is so much out there. And as I said before, in those times I turn to an album I've known and loved. |

I just learned that they are expected to die within about 5 years, though. This just happened to me and I almost freaked when my 90GB external hard drive suddenly burned out. But I had somebody more tech-savvy than I am extract all the info on it (it was only about 1/2 full of music and photos) and put it on a new one so no problems. (The new one holds, I think, 160 GB and is much more compact and quiet). I wouldn't go without one of these. I need my computer's memory for doing, y'know, computer stuff and I'm too lazy to keep up with burning backup copies to disc. |

Dear god that is good to know thanks. If my hard drive died unexpectedly and I lost everything I would flip a ****. I actually went through the process, a while back, of burning everything I don't own to mp3 cds. This process took me... well... quite a long time. So now, once I've listened to something, I determine whether or not I'm keeping it and if I am it immediately gets thrown in a playlist, and that playlist gets burnt to mp3 cd as soon as it approaches 700 mb. That way, if something like that does happen to my hard drive, I just have to rip several hundred mp3 cds back to my computer :/

I always make copies of everything I download music wise, because files on A hard drive can be somewhat fluid and easily deleted... should this happen I always have a copy to fall back on!

I only back up stuff when I know it's worth keeping.
