Song Interpretations
So lately I've been trying to look more into the lyrics of what I'm listening to. So I created this thread to share and talk about the meaning of the songs of you're choice.
So I'll start off with Eel's Flyswater Little field mice Living under the house Never eating much Tough life for a mouse And if you think you're Gonna be spared You're wrong Field mice, head lice Spiders in the kitchen Don't think twice 'bout Whatever keeps you itchin' Ice water, flyswatter Gonna get you through The day Heat is rolling in like Hell's red rug Stinking like the Breath of Beelzebub And if you think you won't Walk on coals You will Field mice, head lice Spiders in the kitchen Don't think twice 'bout Whatever keeps you itchin' Ice water, flyswatter Gonna get you through The day The day Field mice, head lice Spiders in the kitchen Don't think twice 'bout Whatever keeps you itchin' Ice water, flyswatter Gonna get you through The day That's real good Oh yeah To me this song is basically about people being inconsiderate of other living things around them and feeling no remorse for the smaller creatures/rodents/bugs. If they are bugged by another creature they simply kill that creature. I couldn't really dig much deeper than that. |

Bob
by Weird Al Yankovic I, man, am regal - a German am I Never odd or even If I had a hi-fi Madam, I'm Adam Too hot to hoot No lemons, no melon Too bad I hid a boot Lisa Bonet ate no basil Warsaw was raw Was it a car or a cat I saw? Rise to vote, sir Do geese see God? "Do nine men interpret?" "Nine men," I nod Rats live on no evil star Won't lovers revolt now? Race fast, safe car Pa's a sap Ma is as selfless as I am May a moody baby doom a yam? Ah, Satan sees Natasha No devil lived on Lonely Tylenol Not a banana baton No "x" in "Nixon" O, stone, be not so O Geronimo, no minor ego "Naomi," I moan "A Toyota's a Toyota" A dog, a panic in a pagoda Oh no! Don Ho! Nurse, I spy gypsies - run! Senile felines Now I see bees I won UFO tofu We panic in a pew Oozy rat in a sanitary zoo God! A red nugget! A fat egg under a dog! Go hang a salami, I'm a lasagna hog This song is about the human condition, and what we can do to fix it. There's a lot of self-absorbed denial, and I believe it deals with obesity. |

311-Use of Time
With the words slay me slow The verbs that just don't flow Confusing use of time Partial stoning of the heart Waiting for something to start Confusing use of time But the trying again Makes me think it's all gonna end Confusing use of time But everytime I turn the volume down All the I hear is the deafening sound Of your hearts pound But the trying again Makes me think it's all gonna end Confusing use of time Today, the longest day Hearing repeating things you'd say Confusing use of time Can you hear the void I describe What could I say vacancy sounds like Confusing use of time But the trying again Makes me think it's all gonna end Confusing use of time One of my fav songs, by a great band. It sounds like an attack on organized religion. 1st verse talking about being in church, and also the idea that religious people are waiting for signs of god. Stoning-bible reference Chorus talking about fundamentalists, and how the harder you try to convert, the more you tend to attack other religions, and the potential for holy wars arises. 2nd verse-Bible talks about meditating, but while many spiritual people meditate, I honestly don't think many religious people do, so it's like if you meditated in the morning and then went to church hoping to celebrate god's greatness, you might be disappointed by the feverishness of church, and the total lack of serenity and calmness.

MAYBE AFTER HE'S GONE
(Chris White) The Zombies She told me she loved me With words as soft as morning rain But the light that fell upon me Turned to shadow when he came Chorus: Maybe after he's gone She'll come back, love me again Maybe after he's gone She'll come back, want me again Verse 2: I remember joy and pain Her smile, her tears are part of me I feel I'll never breathe again I feel life's gone from me (repeat chorus) All the days and all the nights Are time just passing by And all the dreams I'm dreaming now Hide the tears that I cry Verse 3: (first line instrumental) I feel so cold, I'm on my own As the night folds in around me Night surrounds me, I'm alone (repeat chorus (w/piano only first two lines)) (repeat chorus) Chorus (a capella): Maybe after he's gone She'll come back, love me again After he's gone She'll come back, love me again From the very first time I heard that song, I thought he was murdering her current flame in order to get back with her. I pictured him singing it while digging a hole for the body and crying, on a cold, rainy night. The music had a sort of sinister mood to it....I dunno, listen to it and tell me if you think it might be plausible or I'm just a sick mind teenager. YouTube - The Zombies - Maybe After He's Gone |
