Well guessed - I must remember to rein things in a bit next time

1. Eight Frozen Modules-Echo Youth
Very impressive this, though it's a little less lively than a lot of the electronica I like to listen to.

2. The Pop Group-She Is Beyond Good And Evil
Absolute classic post-punk this.

3. KMFDM-WWWIII
Not really very keen on this one. It just doesn't go anywhere very interesting for me. I do like a few of their other songs though.

4. The Brogues-I Aint No Miracle Worker
Insanely catchy bassline, just a fairly lively all-round good song. Another bunch of guys I've never heard of 'til now.

5. Devin Townsend-Coast
Another one of the better submissions this. I love the way that almost robotic rhythm holds it all up.

6. She & Him-Why Don't You Let Me Stay Here?
No offense to whoever submitted this, but I hated this one.

7. Sisters Of Mercy-Lucretia My Reflection
Never been a huge fan, but I liked this song. I liked that very Peter Hook kind of bassline - that and the echo on the percussion do his track a whole world of good.

8. Frost-Snowman
Interesting how this is tagged as prog-pop - a label the song does well to live up to. Good hook with the keyboards here with the rest of it coming off as a kind of jigsaw puzzle of a song (and a very entertaining jigsaw puzzle at that).

9. Los Lobos-Our Night
Best song of all time? Quite possibly. Whoever submitted this must be some sort of genius

10.El Ten Eleven-Thinking Lonely
A post-rock track has to be very special post-rock track to earn a place in my good books. Unfortunately this kinda falls short for me. There's a nice rhythm to it, but not an awful lot else I'm afraid.

11.Dead Can Dance-Black Sun
A band I've been meaning to get into for quite some time (an ex made me a CD comp many moons ago). Great song, and cheers to whoever submitted it for the reminder!

12.Ali Farka Toure-Ai Du
I'm a massive Ali Farka Toure fan - great stuff from the king of desert blues.

13.Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution-Here's To Life
Judging by the band name, I wasn't really expecting this one. Good song though with a nice, punchy brass figure.

14.Buffalo Killers-Let It Ride
I loved the riff and the vocals worked well with it - good hard-rocking stuff here.

15.Gong-The Isle Of Everywhere
I'm not a fan of a lot of prog, but as with everything there are exceptions. I did enjoy this one though.

16.Gotye-Out Of My Mind
Interesting kind of dub/dancehall/trip-hop crossover here. I dug it.

Some very good songs, but a bit of a mixed bag on the whole.

A few guesses;

Dead Can Dance - Zarko
Bandits Of the Acoustic Revolution - LoathsomePete
Sisters Of Mercy - Zero1986

Can't really think of anyone else.

The Pop Group - Not really my sort of thing. Tones/pitch annoyed me Pretty boring post punk IMO.

KMFDM - Again, not my sort of thing... Industrial rock that doesn't seem like anything special to me (Admittedly don't know too much for the genre)

The Brogues - Better than most garage blues rock I've heard... Not really saying a lot though. Good for what it is, but pretty generic pap for me. Nice and simple, all it needs to be really.

Townsend - The opening intrigued me... Unfortunately it became another proggy song. Even then, it was pretty interesting, not bad at all. Hardly memorable though, not a fan of the vocals.

She & Him - 'Indie' pop folk... Annoying as FUCK vocals. Terrible...

Sisters of Mercy - Goth rock at its most goth rock. Not bad, Just hardly the type of music that holds my interest. Would be decent in the right mood, not really in that mood atm obviously.

Frost* - Not a fan of the vocals, another prog piece from the AntMan. Pretty boring.

Los Lobos - More annoying vocals. Not my sort of thing.

El Ten Eleven - Post guitar rock without any of the things that normally interest me in PGR. And it only goes for 4 and a half minutes, what sort of weak post rock is this?!?!?! Jk, actually refreshing for a post rock song not to blab on me waste space.

Dead Can Dance - Thank god, something different from rock music... Not only that, from one of my favourite bands ever, one of the best songs from Aion. Whoever posted this - GREAT CHOICE!!! Perry one of the most underrated vocalists/writers IMO.

Ali Farka Toure - Nice world blues from the legend.

Bandits - Annoying vocals, but it carries a nice upbeat ska charm to it. Not my thing at all, but its enjoyable due to its nature alone.

Buffalo Killers - Bluesy rock with some psychedelic guitar and annoying vocals. Wish it developed a bit more, may have found myself enjoying it.

Gong - Well, at least there was less prog than in the last competition... Still, its prog... Pretty much all sounds the same to me nowadays.

Gotye - Carrying an almost reggae beat, it was actually interesting/decent, even if I ain't a fan of the vocals. Aussie as well apparently.

All I can say is, at least there was less prog than the last compilation
Still, it reminded me how boring I find most guitar based music atm.

In ORDER

Dead Can Dance
Ali Farka
Eight Frozen Modules
Townsend
Gotye
Bandits
The Brogues

The Rest...

Frost*
Gong
She & Him

Some guesses
Bulldog - Ali Farka
Boo Boo - Gong
Jackhammer - Bandits
Shiseido Red - Goyte
Something tells me you find all vocals annoying.

For some reason I didn't get the last track in the comp, can somebody send it to me please?

First two guesses are correct.

I was thinking "he reminds me of myself" when reading all that. Vocals have a huge influence on whether I like something or not. But, I do like some very questionable vocalists. It just shows how subjective it all is.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Haha, ts just too much in the foreground in most cases, to the point where even if the backing is good, if the vocals are even just average its a major put off. But then you get something which is all ****ed up and weird, and may not be great technically, but its variation is so interesting that I love it
