Nah, no one uses iTunes here .
And it 's ridiculous paying almost as much as you pay for a CD on some compressed ****ty tracks that you have to burn on a CD yourself if you want to play them on your home stereo. You don't get a disc, you don't get a cover, you don't get the same quality.
I am actually baffled by the fact that so may people use itunes instead of buying CD"s. I don't see the good side of the thing.

I do agree with most of that sentiment. I'll never pay money for something that isn't tangible, so I still buy all of my music used, to have something to hold for my money.

Surely you must pay money for some intangible things? Going to concerts for example.

Long before mp3's were common a guy I knew asked me money to keep one of his games on my computer after we had finished a lan party. No ****ing way. Idiot.
I did secretly make a copy to another partition while he wasn't watching. **** yeah.

But as far as I have seen you pay like 12 to 16 dollars for a new CD on iTunes. About 1 dollar a track. That's about the same as the CD costs and for that you get so much less. Why do people do this?

Let's ignore the fact that I've only been to three concerts in my life, and just acknowledge that you do have a fair point, and my statement definitely doesn't properly encompass every purchase. I'll narrow it down and specify that I wouldn't pay for something intangible when there is an equally priced material alternative.

You can download whole movies, video games, softwear, etc. etc. for free off the internet without any real computer know how.

I think what you mean to say, is that downloading music for free is the only thing that is widely accepted as Ok. That might be true.

The thing about wether it should be illegal? The answer is no. Why? A) Too difficult to enforce regionally - so more or less pointless B) If it was going to be effective it could effect other aspects of the internet, we could end up with encoding and terms and laws automatic band width limiters or something. C) As a universal law it's ratordad. Does that mean it should be illegal to lend your friend a CD and let him burn it or even just listen to it? It's obvious that you shouldn't be able to sell someone elses music, but it would make me very very angry if the government told me I couldn't share music with friends. That's part of why I get really upset when YouTube blocks music or I can't watch a video in my country.

So what do you all think about that? Where do you draw the line if you DO decide to crack down on this. Knowing companies and their overheated love for protecting anything that might make money, how far could/would they go?

So I tried to find that store...

...they abandoned that location...

WELP, time to go on Amazon.

Edit: Wait, there's one about 20 minutes from here. I'm going on Saturday.

I have pretty much no money, so the only way I can hear a lot of music is to download it off the internet. I think that a lot of artists (definitely not all) would prefer that I hear their stuff and pass on the word rather than not hear it at all. It's there, why not take advantage of it.

You got to the point I wanted to say in regards to Ben's post but I will go further into that.

There are artists that use the downloading to their benefit. It's not all negative. Mostly smaller unknown artists put their material up on the interwebz so that other people can download their material for free and get the word of mouth buzzing about them. Some artists that ARE known also like to use this for things such as mixtapes or EPs.

but those do it for publicity and the songs ARE public domain
