Video Game Music?
Well, I'm a really big fan of video game music, Unreal Tournament music, Final Fantasy music, pretty much any game's music. The thing is, I have a really hard time finding music that sounds like video game music, but that isn't on a video game track. You know what I mean? Music that sounds similar to video game music, but that is made by a band, released on an album, and sold in stores.
Could someone at least tell me what genre I should be looking in? Maybe recommend a few band names? Thanks! First post here, hope we get along |

It's mostly about Receptors, but there are a couple other different bands on there too. All of the music is made with circuit-bent GameBoys, Playstations, etc. Also the band Totally Radd is worth checking out. They've changed their sound a lot recently but their stuff from about five years ago totally sounds like old Nintendo music. |

Let me clarify a bit, I'm not really looking for stuff that sounds like old Nintendo-type music, I mean music for modern video games. For example, Unreal Tournament music has a techno sound, but doesn't really sound like any techno band I've ever heard. Here's a youtube video where you can listen to a favorite song of mine from that game so you can see what I'm looking for:
Err... okay so I can't post links until I've made 15 posts, so just go to Youtube and type in "unreal organic" and watch the first video that comes up. That's like one of my favorite songs of all time, if you could tell me how to find bands that make music like that I'd love you forever |

That kind of reminds me of the Big Beat stuff that was big in the late 90s. This song, "Busy Child" by the Crystal Method, springs to mind in particular:
Some of the other bands from this era that might be up your alley would be the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy. |

That's closer, but I don't really like how they have "lyrics"... I like how the video game music has no vocals, like in that Organic song the main instrument wasn't vocals, it was like a synthesizer. Am I maybe asking for too much here? I mean you would think that there would be people out there who make this kind of music regularly, but why is it so darn hard to find?

Anything Matin O'Donnell does will always be top-notch. I just got the soundtracks for 2 and 3 and they are a fantastic listen, but that may just be the nostolgia from the games

If you haven't already, check out the Overclocked Remix Community.
Some of the remixed video game songs are very well done, while others are horribly horribly awful. OverClocked ReMix - Video Game Music Community |
