Talking Heads
So while diggin trhough my cousins records i found a cool band it was a burnt CD and anyone know anything about them?I would use google but im lazy.when are they from to 90s or are they like areally new band.
|
They were around from 1976-88
Their first few albums were your typical new wave stuff although to be fair they pretty much created that sound. In later albums they expanded & by the mid 80s were throwing all sorts of world music influences into their stuff. I`m not that keen on their later stuff myself but i`d say their first 4 or 5 albums are pretty much essential. |
wow i was way off i thought psycho killer was a misfits rip off to thanx.
|
yeah I'll agree with UH's comment about the earlier stuff. They were a bunch of art student types, split in early 1990s but hadn't released anything all together since 1988. Songs about Buildings and Food and some other early stuff is essential listening, Remain in Light is their most talked about album ever. A couple of them done side projects that you might be interested in, look out for an album by 'The Heads', and some other stuff.
|
Psycho Killer is my favorite song by them, I also liked the cover of Al Green's "Take me to the river"
|
yeah Psycho Killer kicks ass my fav to havent heard da other though
|
Get Once In A Lifetime & Burning Down The House next
|
ahh i think we have true stories up in the old attic but i didnt grab it is that one good?
|
That was one of their later albums & was a soundtrack to a film made by the band.
It`s not awful but i`d put most of the others above it |

So Misfits, did you follow up any of the above recommendations? All of which are spot on by the way. Talking Heads are easily one of my favourite bands. 'Psycho Killer' being my favourite, the acoustic version from the live album, 'Stop Making Sense' is miles better than the studio release. The album 'Blind' has some brilliant tunes with some superb guitar work from Johnny Marr (feat.) |

i have stop making sense best of true stories(the movie) stop making sense the move fav saong burning down the house or psycho killer |

oh ok ill get talking heads 77
|
Everyone should also check out Tom Tom Club. Its 2/3 of Talking heads (david byrne being the odd one out) they are one of my favorite bands. Definitely has more of a bouncy urban flavor than talking heads did. I'm sure everyone has heard their song Genius of Love. Its one of the most sampled songs ever.
|
I love to no end the song nothing but flowers off their last disc.
|
|
^Heaven = top tune.
As well as the Tom Tom club, the keyboard player Jerry Harrison made a few solo albums . The best IMO being 'Casual Gods'. When Harrison was with the Talking Heads, he was persuaded not to use his keyboards to play a note at a particular frequency during a live concert, because it would cause the audience to simultaneously relax their bowels. (and before anyone kicks off with me...no, I don't know the exact details nor do I remember where I got this story from). |
Didn`t they do something with Shaun Ryder a few years ago , I forget what they called themselves

If so please tell me more. I've lost touch with them. Are they still going? |
No it was the other 3 minus David Byrne about 7 or 8 years ago I think.
I can`t remember if they just recorded one song with him or if it was a whole album. They did release an album though. On allmusic.com it says.... Five years later, the original lineup minus Byrne reunited as the Heads for the album No Talking Just Head. |
Well I live and learn!
This from a favourite web site of mine (giving to much away as to the kind of lifestyle I used to lead...but what the fuck.) Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club duo, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth were asked to produce the album, which was a bad move as they struggled to work with the now out-of-control Shaun. The band's drug abuse was phenomenal at this point and Factory ended up paying over a quarter of a million pounds to make the album. It's widely reported that the band stripped down the recording studio to pay for their new cocaine habit. They even sold their clothes when there was nothing left to steal. Shaun even blackmailed Tony Wilson for the safe return of the recordings. the album in effect bankrupted Factory. Superb website-http://www.unitedmanchester.com/music/happymondays-biography.htm No mention of the albums name though, so I think you have something there Urban. I remember this at the time but had no idea Talking Heads had any dealings with it. |

I knew about that , thats what happened during the recording during the Mondays Yes Please album. The album i`m talking about was a few years after that.It was the 3 members except David Byrne and Shaun Ryder was involved in some way. |

Do you mean this?http://talking-heads.net/theheads/ntjh.html Pleeaase say yes:) |
Yep thats the one
So just the one song then. Ooh , Andy Partridge from XTC as well I might have to look for that |

Again, no idea this existed. For a split second I thought Andy Partridge read Alan Partridge  |
i've heard of them.but i don't know anything about them,sorry.but i hear they rock.
|
I've known about Talking Heads forever, but I just got The Name of this Band is Talking Heads and it blows me away.
The Book I Read is my favorite song. Ever. Air, Don't Worry About the Government, I'm Not In Love... so many great songs. |
Remain In Light <3<3<3
Fear Of Music is also great. |
ive got just about all their albums (some of them are tapes) somewhere. my mom was into them for years and she got me listening to them. grade A. i have a friend who saw their singer perform a bunch of their old stuff.
....i only wish i could have been there. |
Lolz. Talking Heads aren't very awesome I don't think. Their too experimental for my tastes, although I do have 3 songs i like by them. 1. psycho killer and 2. girlfriend is better. My final and favorite song by them though is called A Clean Break, wow that must be one of the best songs of all time, 'cept its rly hard to find on limewire.

Talking Heads are a very essential band and one of my favourites. Their first 7 albums are absolutely essential it's hard to faulter any of them. David Byrne is one of my favourite people in music, his colaberation of Brian Eno is equally impressive as anything from the Talking Heads discography.
|
the whole Little Creatures album is great, seems highly underrated..
Tom Tom Club is great too cant' help but groove to Genius of Love.. Great video, too! |
go pick up the 2 disc set, Popular Favorites : Sand in the Vaseline, you won't be dissapointed
|
I need to get Little Creatures.
|
Everything I've bought since The Name of this Band is Talking Heads has been dissapointing. I'll usually buy it to hear the studio version of one of my favorites off the live disc, and they won't sound as good. Too glossy and what not.

It is VERY much worth getting! |
