if you knew conor you'd know he's probably going to go back to it once he starts getting depression after the mystic valley band thing is over, also anything he records with mike he'll probably list it as Bright Eyes.
and i have met conor before i used to live in omaha

naw, it's fine.

I just was worried it was going to turn into an orgy of people putting their own band names if I didn't put a stop to it.

I'm trying to keep it kinda orderly.

I'm glad someone enjoyed it. When i figured it out I laughed.

14. Modest Mouse

Like i've already said, a lot of the bands derive their names from literary works. Modest Mouse in no exception. Their name comes from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story "The Mark on the Wall" reading--
"...and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people..."

15. !!!

In the movie The God's Must be Crazy there are subtitles in which three mouth-clicking sounds of the Bushmen were represented as !!!. The band really liked that idea and named themselves three clicks. (This makes the band unsearchable by Google..grr )

***!!! is pronounced as any syllable repeated three times, "chk chk chk" being the closest to the original "meaning".

16. Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The name stems from modern New York City vernacular. Apparently it's just a common New Yorker phrase meaning "whatever".

17. Yo La Tengo

It translates to "I have it". There's a nice little andedote with a baseball story that I think is worth seeing instead of me explaining. Yo La Tengo : Fun : Kaplan's Korner
(srsly, watch it, really worth it)

Of course the name Davy Jones is also pirate-related so he was kind of stuck either way.
