Jackhammers rant against conformity

The Radiohead thread still gets hit like no tomorrow.

Everyone claims to love Reggae because they own one Bob Marley record.

The more obscure prog album that you find means that you are cooler than everyone else.

A thread that promotes negativity will outshine a well intentioned thread regarding an unknown band 5:1.

Members have a hard time admitting that they like average music. It is where we all started probably.

Not me, I'll defend my Kiss & Tigertailz albums to the hilt.

Or till I get bored.

Antonio 05-29-2009 07:37 PM

more of a list than a rant, eh?

333 05-29-2009 07:38 PM

Right on, Jackhamma, but then you also run into not conforming to conform with those who don't conform, so what then? Make up new words to define your rebel status?

I know but there are very few of us :( There are very few that have the balls to admit to what they like on here :(

333 05-29-2009 07:39 PM

Hey, I've admitted what I like from the start and YES that includes Richard Marx and I'm not ashamed. :P

A rebel does not listen to saxon. He hides that as deep as he can!

Anteater 05-29-2009 07:40 PM

I'd actually say the more obscure a prog. album is the more awesome it is, but yeah. :thumb:

But yeah, one Bob Marley record doesn't make you a reggae authoritarian figure.

LoathsomePete 05-29-2009 07:41 PM

I will defend bands like Cake and Barenaked Ladies til my last breath. I do agree with you on the reggae part though. I, sadly, know a lot of people who have that mentality. I own a few Ziggy Marley albums and a few other artists, but I wouldn't consider myself a regular reggae listener.

I rarely post there because it's all comparing albums and songs on albums or GTFO cuz you think Radiohead are boring.

I would give up everything I own for that.

mate, you don't know the half of it. there's an entire subculture of Americans that claim an affinity for reggae because they don't shower, own a copy of Legend and smoke copious amounts of marijuana.

fucking idiots couldn't recognize a reggae tune if it ran up and smacked them on the arse.

Listening to prog makes you cool?

That's news to me.

Here in North America we call it an "ass".

boo boo 05-29-2009 09:59 PM

Better a Bob Marley album than someone who claims to be a reggqe lover when all they listen to is 311.

True, but it's a lot more confined to the specific thread than it was a few months ago, and it's mostly me, Sweet Nothing, and a few others with all of the posts.

I personally can't stand reggae, but I see a lot of this. In the real world it's Bob Marley's greatest hits, and some Ziggy Marley song.

I admit I gave in to all the other Van Morrison groupies on the site.

Sorry Lee

He has some really good stuff, but I never got on board the Van Morrison fanboism train.

Not a big fan of his vocal style.

The irresistible sound of Van Morrison's music.

And has anyone found a thread about...something along the lines of "weirdest song you've ever heard"
Does it exist?

....and how was this post constructive? People will either say your a twat or your spot on, based on a total strawman argument.

I think I've openly admitted to liking a few too many of Paul McCartney's solo albums. I think everyone knows I'm a fan of the kind of Americana and country rock that makes certain sets of ears bleed as well. I like Oasis as well.

Terrible Lizard 05-30-2009 09:40 AM

I like power metal and country rock, and I'll defend them in ways your feeble minds cannot fathom.

This actually bothers me a lot. There were some kids at the skatepark talking about how much they were obsessed with reggae while they were smokin their weed with their rasta shirts. I asked them about artists other than marley they liked and they said that he was the only good reggae artist out there. And then started talking about how I didn't understand his music. I asked then what records by him they owned... only Legend of course. I own his first two albums on vinyl. And his entire collection on mp3. So **** you kids.

I still listen to My Chemical Romance and Green Day pretty frequently, among many other hated bands on MB. Eventually you just get used to the criticisims, and quit bothering to hide the fact you like crap bands.
