"anyone listening" by pennywise is kinda depressing, though pennywise isn't really a depressing band. its about the ignorance of todays average man in a society full of tragedy and hate

Not only one of the most depressing pop/rock bands ever, but also one of the most lyrically witty and cynical bands ever is The Smiths. Their most gloomy album in my opinion is the Queen is Dead from 1987. Take this on for depressing: O-Oh Mother I can feel the soil falling over my head, and as I climb into an empty bed; well, enough said. Or another great tune (Never Had No One Ever): When You walk without ease...
On these...the very streets where you were raised; I had a really bad dream...It lasted 20 years 7 months, and 27 days...and I; never, had no one ever. According to me though, The Smiths most depressing song of all is "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" from 1984: In a river the color of lead immerse the baby's head; wrap her up in the news of the world, dump her on a doorstep girl.

I would say The Used are a pretty downer band.. Same with AFI.. their official Fan Club is called the Despair Faction.. I couldnt rightly say though.

i'm surprised at the fact that no-one voted for tool yet tho... I listened to My Dying Bride, but it's a bit heavy to be depressing IMO... maybe tool are too, now that i think about it.
I listened to pennywise and actually found it a quite uplifting song... unless you really pay attention to the lyrics... The actual music is bright + fast... good enough tho.
The others i havent listened to yet, but i'll get round to em...

HIM have depressing songs too but listening to them makes me feel calm on the inside and not-so-calm on the outside...not really depressed..it only depresses me when i'm already sad
Placebo's songs don't depress me at all...they're ok to listen to
Nirvana's songs on the other hand are depressing cause they make me think about Kurt's life (even though they shouldn't)
