The Antlers have only been mentioned twice. Hospice is powerfully depressing, but also uplifting and soothing in a way.
"Bear" is about a young couple who aren't happy with each other and decide to get an abortion. Does it get much heavier than that?

I voted for Tool because I find the fact that so many people like them depressing, but I think my real vote might go to the band I Hate Myself. Their name is hella gloomy, and they sound like this:

Vision of Disorder - From Bliss to Devastation. My brother had this album, if you're not sick of the world and you want to be, then this is the album for you. Never did try any of their other ones, I was going to but one listen of this and I thought what's the ****ing point.

I listen to a lot of extremely gloomy and anguished **** that makes doom metal sound like humppa in comparison, but I still think Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" beats it all. There's obviously a lot of music about discrimination, murder and injustice, some being a lot more explicit in its descriptions or being backed by sadder sounding music, but none resonates with me as strongly.
