Overall The Smiths probably aren't that depressing as such, they can even be quite funny at times, but they certainly have their depressing moments, for example.
"Oh mother I can feel the soil falling over my head" - that line gets me every time. And also the last song on their self-titled album, especially if you know what inspired it.

I know Swans has been mentioned, but this song has been pretty high for me lately, and I'd consider it quite depressing.
