I'm amazed no one has mentioned Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit yet. That gets my vote as the most depressing song ever.

The Smiths/Morissey are the most depressing for me. But i can appreciate their music. I chose Coldplay in the poll as I hate them and think they are the most overrated bland dull boring uneventful pieces of **** ever to hit the music industy. Although I did used to like listening to the 'Parachutes' album when I was younger...

Another song that I find really depressing is Puff the Magic Dragon.
I know most people think it's about drugs, but to me, the song is about a bitter viewpoint of change and growing up and a dragon losing his best friend, and it would make me cry when I was a kid. |

This is such a random list of bands that would count as being depressing!
I just want to say, because they're up there, that I definitely don't think Tool are depressing, but actually really positive in many regards. |

Classical: Beethoven (Moonlight Sonata) The Rolling Stones - in the early days they had some sad, melancholy songs (I love the depressing mood of Back Street Girl, I won't listen to Angie - I find it too depressing.) The Strokes - some of their songs, I don't know what Julian is singing about but it sounds kinda depressing. |
