i voted for nirvana because not only are their lyrics deppressing but it goes much deeper than that.

Haha Coldplay, they have like one sad song, Fix You.

pinback is always depressing to me. joy division is depressing as well.

And sweet nothing with the epic 2-year-bump!

On topic though, I agree, Joy Division is among the most depressing things I've heard.

Of what is on the poll, Smashing Pumpkin strikes a chord. Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever was always a downer.

Every Pinback song I've ever heard seemed kind of upbeat to me.

From the poll list i choose Neil Young. A lot of his songs are really depressing yet comforting to listen to. Cortez The Killer is a real downer of a song.

The Cure and Joy Division were two obvious bands missing from the list!!

No Pink Floyd? The Wall is like the ultimate downer album. And yeah The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, those should have been the obvious choices, where are they?

I would have put in Johnny Cash too.

Van Der Graaf Generator are another one that comes to mind. Very gloomy.
