Game Music
Now I'm not talking about the music for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 100000 or Burnout: Scottish Highlands Expansion where the soundtrack is a collection of songs from existing artists.
I'm talking about the original stuff that get put in video games: Jesper Kyd, Frank Klepacki, the soundtracks for Morrowind and Oblivion. They were great mood setters, the last two even adapted the music depending on if you were exploring, being attacked by monsters, or just drinking in the virtual landscape. These are things that don't just fall into the category of original soundtrack because unlike a film, a game has many variations at each stage. It puts you in the mindset for it, it shapes the way you play, the energy you impart to it. Who here agrees? |
Yeah, music is a very important part of the gaming experience for me. I often find myself playing the same stages over and over just to hear the music.
Kōji Kondō is the 8 bit Mozart. |
i'd love to have a job as a composer for video games
|
I still to this day listen to something and think, "oh, that reminds me of Legend of Zelda!".
Oddly enough I usually wind up loving music that reminds me of videogames. So yeah, I love most video game music. |
It's effin impossible for me to play Assassin's Creed... but Kyd totally made it worth owning.
And, anyone else a fan of the Katamari music? |
We Love Katamari has one of the best Video Game soundtracks I own. :D
|
i really like the sonic cd soundtrack. haven't listened to the japanese version though
|
Silent Hill has the best video game soundtrack I have heard.
|
Music is critical to some games though I often find myself listening to my own music in the background.
Nevertheless, check out my Michael Hoenig thread. His BG1/2 soundtracks were fantastic. |
Still a big fan of the FF7 soundtrack.
