One time I played Mario Kart Double Dash while listening to The White Album. It was awesome.
Everyone should race through Wario Colosseum while cranking up Helter Skelter real loud at least once. |

I have alot of favorites... my friend.
These arn't as high on my pedestal, but they did pop into my head: Bonk's Revenge- Snowy Mountain (starts at 5:37) Super Mario Galaxy- The Center of the Universe Kid Icarus- Underworld Theme Good stuff... I think playing video games when I was younger preped me for being a music-freak. edit: I forgot this little gem

Kid Icarus is an awesome game but indeed quite hard. Thank god for passwords.
Good call on Bonk's Revenge, that's a great game from a pretty underrated series. I definitely recommend getting a TurboGrafx16 emulator and checking that game out among others. Mario Galaxy had a superb soundtrack as did Brawl and Twilight princess. I still think Nintendo are top of the tier in soundtracks. Most of the PS3/360 games I've played don't really make soundtracks an important part of the gaming experience and a lot of it is just background music that you wouldn't really want to listen to on it's own. Picking a favorite soundtrack is tough but I'm especially fond of the Sega Genesis soundtracks. Some of my favorites. Everyone knows this one. Very jazzy techno stuff. This might be my favorite soundtrack ever. Same guy who did the Streets of Rage music, a little jazz and funk mixed with techno and a very oriental vibe to it as well. F*cking epic. This was back when Sonic Team games had fantastic music and not nu metal bands and Akon. Castlevania has a rep for awesome soundtracks overall. It just adds more awesomeness to an already awesome game. Last edited by boo boo; 07-24-2010 at 04:47 PM. |

I played this game a couple of weeks ago. Maxed out everyone in 50 hours. Terrific game.

Fuck yeah video game music.
So shit, I love Fire Emblem games, first one in English is one of my favorite games ever, and it has a killer soundtrack. When you're playing the game the music fits perfectly. It's brilliant. So are the rest. Now here's a game with a great soundtrack. Lots of classic shit here. And that'll do it for the Under Appreciated Games With Awesome Soundtracks part of the post, now onto more well-known stuff. You may notice that my latest last.fm scrobbles are the Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack. One of my first games ever: So was this: A little bit later on... Gives me the creeps even now. That game still terrifies me sometimes. In the sports department, NHL 99 had a great soundtrack. Perfect industrial-sounding stuff for a game where the commentary consisted of gems like "NORTH-BOUND ON A SOUTH-BOUND FREEWAY, LOOK OUT!" and "WELCOME TO THE ROAD KILL CAFÉ" Right around that time, I have a lot of awesome memories of this game and the music is no exception. No list including late-90's video game music is complete without this: Both Paper Marios (I refuse to acknowledge the Wii version exists, for it is not turn-based) had amazing soundtracks. And then, via the last Mario Party they ever should have made (because fuck you those first 3 were amazing), we have some amazing music. Pretty much every board is great on the sound department. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM Moving forward, COMMAND AND FUCKING CONQUER. More RTS goodness: Something incredibly recent, and amazing: Though not made for the game, it's still great. It'd be a crime to leave this off the list: YouTube - Pokemon Red, Yellow, Blue Battle Music- Trainer YouTube - Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal - Rival Battle Theme YouTube - Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal - Champion Battle Then there's this: Awesome remix of this, which I've never played. You've got me started. There's no hope for you now. (I might edit this post in a bit with links instead of embeds)
