I think the idea was to suggest soundwaves/audio data on a piece of tape, but subliminally suggest a vague, kind of creepy humanoid figure about to enter the room (the stretched-out, sideways picture), but it's just too minimalist for my tastes (in album covers, at least), especially for a Poe-related cover.

That doesn't include everything. There are a lot of people who do at least some music and even publish it on bandcamp, soundcloud, youtube, etc. who aren't going to be paying any bills with their musical activities.

I care about craftsmanship. There's a strong correlation between people who make at least part of their living with music and craftsmanship.
