I am fond of this idea for a thread. Not a Portishead kind of fella however makes this an easy decision.

Hendrix. i listened to both and while Portishead's has some artistic merit, Jimi's is just sooo good, from the riff to the overall feel of the song

That Portishead track is actually pretty awesome, I've never really listened to them before but I'll probably download 3rd now.
But it's still Hendrix for me, not even really close in the end. Sure the jam goes on for several minutes too long, but the first four minutes are perfect. One of my favourite Hendrix songs. |

I couldn't care less about this current choice (Machine Gun), but completely different songs called I Want You were recorded by Bob Dylan (Blonde on Blonde) and The Beatles (Abbey Road). I'm just throwing it out there as an idea.

sucks that the newbs made this poll biased. I think Jimi is still edging it in the "real" poll, however.
EDIT: The Smiths have a song called Cemetry Gates and so do Pantera, go figure (yes I realize English spelling differs from American). That would be an interesting battle.
