Another superb double bassist and bass guitarist--Nicki Parrot of Australia. Very well known in the music biz she's played with everyone from Clark Terry to Jose Feliciano to Patrice Rushen to Randy Brecker to Les Paul (who was a very close friend). She started on piano and flute but her sax-playing sister needed a bassist for her combo so Nicki switched over to bass at 15 and came to New York in 1994. She plays at all the major jazz festivals including the annual one here in Detroit at Hart Plaza where she walked by me once and gave me a little smile (you talk about hearing beautiful romantic music go off in your head). She is also a great singer and has led her own combos. Ridiculously unknown and underrated.

I have seen her several times before. Before his passing, Les Paul used to play every Monday at the Iridium Jazz Club here in NYC and she played bass for him. Agreed. Very attractive and talented. I had no idea what her name was though before now, or even that she was relatively well known.
