What do people think the term "obese" was invented for? It isnt to slag someone off or make them feel bad. If you're obese, you're obese. It doesnt make you "sizeist" just to use that term. Just ask a doctor if you care so much and let this die.
I have no issue with the term "obese." "Obese" doesn't mean unhealthy, as has been proven many times. I'm considered clinically obese on the BMI scale, yet my blood pressure, triglycerides, lipids and cholesterol levels are fine. Being "obese" does not make me unhealthy.

My issue is with people who assume a fat person is unhealthy simply based on size alone. Paloma and Pedestrian know nothing of Beth's medical history, yet they've openly claimed that Beth is "obviously unhealthy" because of "all that lard," as Paloma so supportively pointed out. Beth may be obese, but unless we've seen her medical records, we can't claim she's unhealthy.

I call everyone hon, hon, especially when I can't remember their names. It's just something I do.

Well, darling, it's something that a number of people have expressed they find offensive, but you continue to belittle them with it.

I admire thirtiesgirls posts; eloquent, intelligent and passionate, yet she is being mistreated in this thread. Leave her be!
I'd respect her if she respected anyone else. She clearly doesn't.

I don't know where you saw me claiming I was the authority on beauty, I'm just implying Beth Ditto is universally considered unnattractive and she posted a picture of her in the Most Beautiful Female Musician thread, so she was obviously looking for a fight.

Things like "Hon" and the very cleverly chosen "sweetheart" there are always good for getting one's point across. I congratulate you both, how eloquent, intelligent and passionate.

I haven't read all the posts, but can someone sum this argument up for me? Am I wrong for not finding fat girls physically attractive?

If so, I still don't give a shit.

It's thread about women musicians who people think are physically attractive and you post Beth Ditto. What were you expecting?
Not open sizeism, that's for sure. I was hoping that I could post a pic of a woman that I find attractive, who I also admire for many reasons, and not have to deal with open sizeism for a change. I was hoping, foolishly, I know, that enough of a change had been made in the world that someone could post a pic of a fat person on an internet forum not specifically devoted to fat people and not get flak for it.

Yes, I did, in answer to Zaq's query about why I posted them.

From the perspective of a fat woman, you're not wrong. Attraction is subjective and if you don't find fat people attractive, you don't find them attractive. Nothing wrong or right about it; it just is. What is wrong is sizeism and allowing it to continue uncommented on. Most fat people who are size activists don't find people attractive who don't speak up.

Yes, I did, in answer to Zaq's query about why I posted them.
And he answered that there are specific threads for that, this one is about physically beautiful people.

If you still find her physically attractive then that's that. And it would've been that if you hadn't started assuming he hates fat people and merely objectifies women.

You're the first person who's said so in this thread. And again, my intent is not to belittle. If I've forgotten your name, I'll usually call you hon. It's something I do with everyone.

Obesity

Obesity is more than just a few extra pounds.

Obesity is the heavy accumulation of fat in your body to such a degree that it rapidly increases your risk of diseases that can damage your health and knock years off your life, such as heart disease and diabetes.

Obesity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

Obesity - NHS Choices

Obesity can cause a number of health problems, such as type 2 diabetes (a condition caused by too much glucose in the blood), and heart disease (when the heart’s blood supply is blocked).

Being overweight or obese can also shorten life expectancy (how long a person should live). In obese adults over 40 years of age, obesity can shorten life expectancy by 6-7 years.

Obesity : Department of Health - Public health

Obesity can have a severe impact on people’s health, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and heart and liver disease.

Food Standards Agency - Eat well, be well - Obesity

When someone is obese, it means they have put on weight to the point that it could seriously endanger their health.
