The Clash - Sandinista!
Year: 1980

6 sides of pure, experimental Clash. This is just pure awesome from The Magnificent Seven to Shepherds Delight. Yeah 2 hours and 24 minutes of brilliance. You get the point. The album that was released at cut price due to Clash cutting their own royalties from the album is well worth the massive amount of time you're undoubtedly going to have to dedicate to it. People who criticise it only really say that there's "one good album hidden in all of this". Yeah, that's not really a criticism now is it? I'll argue that there's not 1 good album in it all, becuase it is so, so, so much better with everything in it. And as such can only really be a good triple album. This is an experience that cannot be missed, and should be treated as such. Listen to it when you have the time to sit through it all, believe me, it's worth it.

3 Choice Tracks: The Magnificent Seven, Somebody Got Murdered, Police On My Back

Great album, often passed over by casual fans and critics, Sandinista is as you noted experimental Clash at it's best. There is a lot of filler, although that's the wrong word for a song or songs on a triple album, still it's hard to resist delving into the bizarre and experimental rap and country rock songs on the album. Especially 30 years later.

People then, just like now have ridiculously small attention spans, and as such it kinda explains why Sandinista is rated so low compared to what it deserves.

I never understood people who criticized an album for being too long, especially in the CD era. That's why you fast forward or skip the song. One man's ovaltine is anothers chocolate milk after all.

Nor me considering they sold it at the same price of a single album.

Charlie Don't Surf is excellent as well. Plus what's would a Clash album be without filler?

Am I the only person who likes Soundtracks the best?

No Soundtracks is my Favourite Can album.

Good call on Sandinista. I love the damn thing!

Charles Mingus - Pithecanthropus Erectus
Year: 1956

Oh.My.God This album is absolutely insane. Composer/Bassists Charles Mingus does some things here that will just literally have you in awe. This album is far more chaotic than say Bud Powell's inclusion, and it's so cool it's nearing absolute zero. There are parts of this album that remind me of the freak outs of Captain Beefheart, and parts remind me heavily of the Canterbury prog-fusion. You can see the influence of Mingus and the general 50's jazz scene, but nothing so blatant as this. This is one to just totally chill out to, just be amazed that you're in a time when you can hear something 53 years old and wonder why it sounds newer, fresher and cooler than whatever you listened to before.

3 Choice Tracks: Four track album, so leaving out one would just be cruel.

Lords of Acid - Voodoo-U
Year: 1994

For those of you unfamiliar with this filthy belgian techno band, the album cover gives pretty much the right impression. This is sexually charged high energy freak out industrial electronica. Safe to say this is incredibly interesting, and certainly incredibly entertaining. It's very well worth the listen, just to satisfy your curiosity. Hey you might even get a boner while you're there. Regardless of what you think about electronica/techno (personally as a genre I dislike it) this is a very interesting album, and well worth a listen. Put it on next time you're getting jiggy.

Hahaha I haven't heard that album in a looooooong time. But I used to really like it.
