Album 959

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
Year: 2003

Kayo Dot's debut still sounds incredibly fresh, and oh so bloody awesome. This album is insanely heavy but not in the sense that you might think. Yes there is a lot of metal here, but it's all about the mood, it's just insanely controlling of both your emotions and your thoughts when you listen. From the moment you put it on expect to just lose periods of time to the album without having a clue what has happened, 10 minute songs will come and go before you even notice that the last song had finished. Everything flows so well and it's just done in a way that makes it utterly brilliant. This is one to listen to when you want your metal with a massive dollop of intelligence.

3 Choice Tracks: Marathon, The Manifold Curiosity, Wayfarer

You absolutely must.

Octopus too.

And all the rest of both Gentle Giant and King Crimsons albums too. Well, with some exceptions.

I'll put Lizard on when I go to bed tonight.
Along with Tago Mago, Dark Side of the Moon, and all of the other 84930482 albums I need to check out.

But Lizard is first on my list.:soccer:

Even King Crimson's worst albums (which IMO would be Islands, Beat and ConstruKction of Light) are at least decent.

Gentle Giant's first 7 albums are all must have.

For me it would be Beat and in the Wake of Poseidon. All decent yes, and indeed Gentle Giant's first seven are all brilliant.

Well Interview is also good. The rest, of what I've heard, is pretty f*cking awful.

:soapbox:

They sold out their prog for new wave and power pop. And as you can see, they didn't do either very well.

Leaf Hound - Growers of Mushroom
Year: 1971

Ah the seventies, times were simpler and nothing was out of place except the door. Wait what? Generally regarded as the start of stoner rock/metal this epic hard rock album delivers everything you'd possibly want from an album of it's time. It rocks hard, has a lot of interesting riffs, lyrics and guitar solos. The vocals have a significant amount of attitude, it's basically just brilliant. It's an incredibly interesting listen too, just to hear the obvious influences, and in this case time has made it a much better album, becuase it has aged very very well. This is one to listen to while toking up or if you want your socks rocked off.

3 Choice Tracks: Freelance Fiend, Work My Body, Growers of Mushroom
