I haven't yet heard Estrangement but I've always liked their earlier material like Blood in Our Wells.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to the Heaven
Year: 2000

Stunningly beautiful, is the most appropriate way to describe this album, absolutely stunning, it's as close to perfect as you can get. Astonishingly good, the main crime here is that they won't reform to make more material. Short description I know, but god it's hard to write about something that absolutely floors you, the best post-rock album ever. Listen to this when you're ready to be blown away.

Gentle Giant - Octopus
Year: 1972

This album is whimsical, chaotic and controlled at the same time. It feels very tounge in cheek and once again, incredibly british. The album can freak out and rock out, often at the same time, the vocal performance here is just stunning and it's a pleasure to listen to every time around. Chosing three songs has never been so hard, but then again it hasn't been this enjoyable either. This is wonderful stuff, every bit is both progressive, fun and awesome. This is one to listen to when need you something that's always going to be new, fresh and interesting.

Thelonious Monk - Monk's Music
Year: 1957

The Monk is back and better than ever in this absolutely epic release. It's the second album so far featuring John Coltrane, which usually means it's a winner. And of course it is, or it wouldn't be here. This is incredibly relaxing, the sheer beauty and restraint shown feels incredibly tense and it just adds so much to the listening experience. The whole thing just rolls forward and it can become an incredibly emotional experience to listen to it. This is one to just sit back to, and listen to every single note, every bit of restraint, and I dare you to not feel some form of emotion.

King Crimson - Lizard
Year: 1970

The album that introduced me to King Crimson, yet is so different to anything they've done before or after is still my favourite example of their work. Side A comprises of four shortish songs just done brilliantly, and side B is quite possibly the greatest song of all time. The title track is just a massive, perfectly composed piece of brilliance, Jon Anderson does guest vocals, and life is good. Check out my review of the album in my review corner. This is one to listen to when you can't decide between jazz and prog.
