![]() Via Coma A few weeks ago I went to a show at a small venue to see my cousin’s friend’s brother’s wife’s uncle’s nephew’s band play their first gig, and after being somewhat impressed by their 14-year-old grasp on music, we hung around to watch another (somewhat) local band play their set. They blew my mind! They have a very sophisticated and unique sound, and the vocalist is goose-bump inducing amazing. Who is this amazing new talent, you ask? They’re called Via Coma and they’re an Experimental/Indie/Rock band based out of Walnut Creek, California. After raiding their merch stand, I talked to a few of the bands members letting them know how much I liked their work and they invited me to a show they were playing the following weekend. I kept contact with the band members through the week, until the following Friday night I traveled the two hours to Livermore with a cake that I baked for them (chocolate, with vanilla icing and their logo drawn on the top), my new green “I AM VIA COMA” t-shirt, and high expectations. They did not let me down. Upon arrival I was swarmed with hugs and cheers and countless words of appreciation. I was allowed to go with them to the backstage area where we enjoyed the delicious cake together and got to know one another. But this isn’t about me and my relationships with hot up-and-coming band members. This is me letting you guys in on a great thing, for which you’ll undoubtedly thank me later. The only catch is that because they’re a very new band (they’ve been together about a year) I don’t have a download available. I do own their newly released EP, Bridges, but I can't get mediafire to work without freezing my computer right now, so I apologize. Anyways, I give it three years (at the most) until you’re all playing their tracks relentlessly on your iPod. But for now, you’re all just going to have to go through the agonizing process of clicking the link to their MySpace page. You won’t be sorry, and if you are, well… fuck you.
