Songs I LOVE by bands I LIKE (but dont love) pt. #1I'm sure everyone has had this experience you hear a song by a group and you think 'my god that's amazing, I must hear more from this band!' But sadly nothing else they have done really impresses you as much as that one song. So youre left hungry for more, though getting scarps of good stuff its like a burger patties compared to a full steak. Muse- New Born One of these songs for me is New Born by Muse. It's pretty much their equivalent of Radiohead's Paranoid Android. Matt Belamy sings about humanity's growing dependence on technology and how humanity itself is well losing its humanity and growing more like cold machines. But Ive never cared about Muse's lyrics that much but these however I find interesting. Musically the song is fucking great. After the dreamy robotic piano you hear Matt play this amazing guitar riff, and then you know shits going down. Most of the time I'm annoyed by Matt's voice, we know you can hit the high notes Matt but you dont need to prove it in every single line you sing, though here it actually fits rather well. Also great solo (Matt is actually a very good guitarist) though in the video below the solo features more guitar sweeps, but it makes it sound even better.New Born (at Glastonbury) Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect- The Decemberists This is one of my all time favorite songs, so of course Ive tried desperately to get into other stuff by the Decemberists but end up with nothing more than disappointment. Colin Meloy's lyrics on here are pretty much what makes me love this songs so much. Reminiscent of something Bob Dylan would write they are almost surreal in their story telling of dreams and past lives. The band's overall sound matches Colin's words with their soft dream like sound. Again reminiscent of Dylan with light drums, organ, and light playful electric guitar all that’s missing is a harmonica. The lyrics are something of a story telling as Colin as the narrator revisiting his dreams (or past lives) with opening lines narrating “And here I dreamt I was a soldier and I marched the streets of Birkenau and I recall in spring the perfume that the air would bring to the indolent town” or “And here in Spain I am a Spaniard I will be buried with my marionettes, countess and courtesan have fallen beneath my tender hand when their husbands were not around”. Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect Full Lyrics: And here I dreamt I was a soldier And I marched the streets of Birkenau And I recall in spring The perfume that the air would bring To the indolent town Where the barkers call the moon down The carnival was ringing loudly now And just to lay with you There's nothing that I wouldn't do Save lay my rifle down And try one, and try two Guess it always comes down to All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way And I am nothing of a builder But here I dreamt I was an architect And I built this balustrade To keep you home, to keep you safe From the outside world But the angles and the corners Even though my work is unparalleled They never seemed to meet This structure fell about our feet And we were free to go And try one, and try two Guess it always comes down to All right, okay, guess it's better to turn this way And here in Spain I am a Spaniard I will be buried with my marionettes Countess and courtesan Have fallen beneath my tender hand When their husbands were not around But you, my soiled teenage girlfriend Or are you furrowed like a lioness And we are vagabonds We travel without seatbelts on We live this close to death And try one, and try two Guess it always comes down to All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this But I won, so you lose Guess it always comes down to All right, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way

What do you consider their best? IMO Castaways And Cutouts and the Crane's Wife are their moments of glory. But it wasnt local radio its was XM they have this like 'indie' station I guess you can call it where they play bands like Decemberists, Hot Chip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, ect ect ect. And I did see them on the Colbert report a couple nights ago and thought they were really good. As for Bob Dylan he could record an album of him playing a cowbell and I'd still buy it.

Probably Crane's Wife and Picturesque (spelling?) The new one though really strikes a good chord though.

And Colin Meloy is criminally underrated as a lyricist. |

JUST SOME VIDEOS AND BRIEF REVIEW OF A NICE TRACK FROM Lisa Mitchell I think that the radio feature on LastFm is extremely underrated. I have never spent time listening to it when I didn't find a song or a band I wanted to investigate further. One day while listening to the aforementioned brilliance, I came across a nice, poppy track by the lovely Lisa Mitchell. (After some google searching I read that when she was 16 she placed 6th on Australian Idol.) Anyway, the song I heard, Neopolitan Dreams, it's irrestistably catchy, and if you're not smiling by the end of the "ba da, ba da da da's" you probably need to get a new personality. Her voice reminds me a little bit of Julia Stone's (of Angus and Julia Stone) which is nice. Link: (Embedding Disabled) YouTube - Lisa Mitchell - Neopolitan Dreams Aaaand some other stuff. |

Picture Atlantic -Kleos- Dove in the Clefts of Rock Muses Circe Slip Into The Sea Thats Just Me The Sound of Thoughts in Limbo Anytime/Coats of Armor Dear Anne Cassandra Castaway/Clytaemnestra Wrapped Up Young Pantheon Air The Softest Picture Come Back to Me Remember when I told you guys about that band I was obsessed with and I made them a cake and stuff? Well they played a show in Walnut Creek on the 29th, and I went to see them again. While I was there I found a new band to be obsessed with. Yay! If you haven't guessed who it is by now, you should probably get your eyes checked, because they're name is in bright red at the top of the page. Hard to miss (har har). Picture Atlantic is from the Bay Area, and in July 2008 won the chance to open for Coldplay at the San Jose HP Pavilion through a Bay Area radio station. Oh, and they're managed by Jake Turner of Say Anything. Anyway they released their first album in 2008. I bought it after the show for $5 and I feel like I ripped them off. It is so ****ing excellent! I remember while they were onstage I thought to myself "this is exactly the music I like." From their amazing, emotional lyrics to their euphoric, powerful riffs, they are precisely what I look for in a band. It's really obvious from their music that they have a lot of Brit-Pop influences, but they've avoided sounding like Coldplay (which, I'll admit, I was expecting), or any other band for that matter. Picture Atlantic is a band who plays what they like but have still created their own sound. They have something unique and special, and the way they combine those two traits provides listeners with music that’s fresh, different, and completely stylish. As of now, Circe is my favorite song. Hit me up if you want a link. If no one asks I'm just going to shove it down all of your throats until you love it and worship me for my services. Edit: Just realized I didn't put any videos. Silly me.
