lol good stuff. My favourite Beirut song is 'Scenic World'
I like the random inclusion of Cabaret Voltaire in this indie mix! (wont lie i dont recognize half the artists but i'm just assuming..) on the d/l and yes young kenneth-san should come back, take responsibility for his half of the thread and stop being a whiney bitch edit: meant bitch in a nice way Last edited by Molecules; 10-16-2009 at 06:20 AM. |

This is probably the fourth time I've mentioned it, but I'm seeing Beirut (among other fantastic bands) on Sunday, and I'm so excited I can't even stand it. So that explains the upbeat nature and prominent Zach Condon influence on this mix. |

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Up From Below "Home is Wherever I'm With You..." Best enjoyed while sitting in a field of wheat at sunset with the stereo at high volume, a cold beer in hand with a chain of daisies hanging from your neck, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes are absolutely joyous with a rich, dynamic, eclectic, psychedelic-country sound. They sing, clap, whistle, stomp their feet and make all manner of joyous noises; a vibe that (although hard to capture on records) made their performance at the Treasure Island Music Festival rejuvenating, adorable, and unforgettable. Take one part Arcade Fire, one part Johnny Cash (with a pinch of June Carter), some Kings of Leon, maybe some Scissor Sisters and throw it all into a blender with an obligatory shot of wheatgrass, top it off with Sgt. Pepper era Beatles and you have the magic that is this band. Up From Below is full of thumping, pounding rhythms and folksy arrangements accented by the occasional whimsical falsetto, rich melodies, a touch of horns and unashamed romance. When I saw them at Treasure Island their performance was so powerful and overwhelmingly sweet that I had to bite my lip during their set to keep from crying. I dare you to listen to this album and keep a straight face. Oh, PS - Edward Sharpe is the alter-ego of Alex Ebert, better known as the front man of Ima Robot… feeling a little thrown off? Yeah, so was I. |

I'm downloading this mate. Despite the fact that i hate most of the bands you compared them to and the jolliness makes me want to cut myself, there is at least something going on musically... They are better than Arcade Fire

If we didn't reply, doesn't mean we didn't read :P
I have the same view of Molecules' on that one. The extra jolliness killed it for me, it was the female vocalist that ruined it, her voice is too sparkly and neat, tho they do have good melodies. . However, it's always good to see a band living HAIR the musical. ** Really interested in seeing those Facebook monologues, the suspense is killing me!

The album is pleasing to mine ear (how many ways can you avoid saying 'duuuhh it woz erm good', because I am having trouble today?),
i thought i would have to leave my bitterness at the door and put on a happy hat but this wasn't necessary in the end, so i have just settled for objectively appreciating the upbeat eclecticism of the music. Like a man in a black poloneck, with a 3-day beard. *punches self* güd yob mein freundin! |
