Is Coldplay really that bad? (alternative, indie, album, Radiohead)

Going out on a limb here...

I'm not necessarily a "Coldplay fan," but they have a lot of stuff I kinda like. Their third album had a lot of decent songs (Square One, White Shadows, Low). But it seems like they get a lot of hate for trying to be like the bands that influenced them (U2 & Radiohead) and not really accomplishing that. Is there something else I'm missing? Why do so many people hate coldplay?
