Personally I dont really care for the guys music but I can respect him up til a certain point & agree with quite a few of the things he said. Personally I dont like GG Allin's music but could relate to a lot of what he was saying such as parents bring their kids up to be socially acceptable or whatever it was. I respect him for being an individual and standing out. But as for the rape and degreadation of humans on stage I think it is unrelated to the music & dont agree with these acts. I think if people actually want to have sex at a concert & be violent then fine, its their thing & even though I dont personally approve of it I respect it. Another view I have though is that the people who go there and know what to expect but for the younger ones who dont I think there is an issue there. I think that his shows should have had an age limit and definitley 13 year old kids shouldnt have been allowed. On the other hand, even though I can respect people's interests, I still think that the rape & violence is unneccessary as I think music without a doubt can be very much enjoyable without all that. Finally, i think its all fine until the rape and violence/beatings part. Now, 'rape' is only 'rape' is its non-consensual isnt it? So if the people actually want these things then I dont see why they shouldnt be allowed. Its just the people who dont (who shouldnt go basically) Now the guy would probably say to me im pidgeonholed in 'whats acceptable' in society but Im not. Im quite an open minded person and trying to be as open minded about this as I can but I do think a line has to be drawn at a certain point and I think GG Allin crossed the line. This is a very difficult thing to try and 'justify' as such but I tried to put across both aspects of my opinion. I think it was just that bit too extreme and if it was toned down a bit (without the random rape & violence) then it would have been alright.

Now your opinion is totally understandable and plausabile but (IMO), if you like the music, then you should listen to it & dont worry about what I would call 'shallow minded people' who say 'dont listen to that because hes this that or the next thing'. Now Im not defending what he does but making a point that hating him isnt an valid excuse to hate his music (IMO). Now, I dont like his music to be honest & wouldnt bother listening to it but to me he is obviously talented as an entertainer & I think it is just too easy for you to hate bands based on who the people are. Like a previous poster said, you wouldnt hate a book because of the author. I would much prefer it if people would have a much more open mind when it came to music. To me it doesnt matter if the person is an ******* as its irrelevant when you to listen to a song (IMO). |

Well, I'm glad you appreciate what I'm saying as a lot of people don't, also I thought I had another argument on my hands... (which Im trying to avoid) but I still like to put my opinions across.
I just see the persons behaviour & the general perception of the person by the media/general public is totally irrelevant to my own when I listen to their music. |

Overall, it never really bothers me. A musician's pretentious, arrogant and annoying attitude only really starts to get to me when it starts to leak into the music itself, where listening to it leaves you with that political-messages-are-being-shoved-up-my-ass-in-a-forceful-and-extreme-fashion. You know, where it goes beyond the point of an opinion. Fourtunately, I haven't had to deal with this in a while. While I disagree with some thins that bands express in their songs, it doesn't really detract from the song at all.
