Frank Zappa: Yes, he clearly did what he wanted, with some awesome results.
The Clash: Yes, I would not be who I am without The Clash. Bob Dylan: Yes, I would not be who I am without my dad playing Bob Dylan over and over again. Pink Floyd: Yes, they had two amazing albums, and a bunch of great ones. Big Black: N/A Tom Waits: Yes, I enjoy. The Smiths: No because I don't like their music. Chuck Berry: N/A

I just felt like backing up my opinions. :P Being an MB favorite has always been in my criteria for who deserves to make the HOF.
Whatever then, if you insist, I will remove The Smiths.

Frank Zappa
Yes if only because he once asked why he played so many genres of music, he replied "because I can". He was scatological but backed it up with musical chops. He was intelligent and could have gone the serious music route but he understood the transient nature of fame so he decided to have a bit of fun. The Clash Yes and although they turned their back fairly quickly on the raw Punk sound, kudos has to be given for their determination to try different sounds and genres into their music. Bob Dylan No although a couple of his albums are really good (Highway 61 revisited), I don't listen to him enough and I hate his voice. Pink Floyd Yes. Do I really need to answer this? Big Black Yes. Sod it. I love their sound and listen to them a lot. Even if people dislike Steve Albini's production style, he went for something a little different away from the DIY garage ethic. Tom Waits Yes, because the more i hear of him the more I get into him and appreciate the smosgaboard of sounds he conjures up. The Smiths No. I like The Smiths but I just prefer other 80's guitar bands. Chuck Berry no. Just don't listen to him.

For now on I'll be going against what I usually do which is voting based on impact. Now I'll just go on personal preference. That's what everyone else does, so I should be consistant with the interest of the forum.
Frank Zappa - Absolutely. Not only one of the most original musicians ever, also one of the coolest people to ever live. The Clash - Yes, they seem to get little to no respect from punk fans these days. But that doesn't matter. They're still THE best punk band of their era. Bob Dylan - Overrated as all hell, but I do like him so sure, why not? Pink Floyd - Who me? The classic rock tard? Like you have to ask. Big Black - Nay. I know they have paved the way for all the lo fi/noise bands, oh wait, that's just another reason to vote no. It's just not my kind of music. Sonic Youth I'd certainly vote for though. Tom Waits - Sure The Smiths - These guys will get inducted anyway. So no yes vote from me, screw em. Chuck Berry - Sure. |

Frank Zappa: Damn straight.
The Clash: N/A Bob Dylan: Good songwriter, terrible musician. He gets my yes. Pink Floyd: Yes. You'd be pretty damn insipid to vote otherwise. Big Black: Sure. Tom Waits: Yes. The Smiths: Fuck 'em, they're overrated and put on a pedestal by every "edgy" and "independent" listener on this forum. Definitely no. Chuck Berry: A great musician, a great man. Thumbs up here!

Frank Zappa: Chyea, good musiks.
The Clash: Yes. I find some of their material rather bland but London Calling is a gem. Bob Dylan: Yes, he's god. Pink Floyd: N/A. I don't really listen to enough PF to care either way. Big Black: Chyes. Songs About ****ing is a great album. Tom Waits: Big yes. A man for the ages. The Smiths: Personally, nah. I own a few Smiths/Mozzy albums and judging from my taste in music they should be way up on my list, but I can't really dig it. Chuck Berry: N/A. Don't listen to him. |
